Kent McKusick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 26, 2024.
Rev. Kent Charles McKusick, 72, died after a short illness on June 4, surrounded by his loving husband and mother-in-law. Born on January 12, 1952, Kent grew up in Guilford, Maine and spent many years living in Greenville and Bangor. Careers included ski instructor, white water raft guide, banker, and more recently UU Minister. He was involved with several theaters in Maine and his love for the stage, wisdom, compassion, and humor were ever present in his life.

In 2006 Kent met the love of his life, James Perrin, and they were married on December 13, 2014.

He retired and moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 2022, where he supported his husband's new career, traveled, and planned further retirement adventures.

Kent was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Alice McKusick and sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Thomas O'Connell, all of Guilford. He is survived by his husband James Perrin and his mother-in-law Linda Perrin, both of Fort Worth, and his brother and sister-in-law John and Sharon McKusick of Guilford. Several nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.

A celebration of Kent's life will be held Thursday, August 15 at 2pm at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor, with a reception following the service. Those who knew Kent are invited to join us in celebrating his vibrant, fascinating, multi-faceted life.

Kent was perhaps my best friend between the ages of 8 and 10. I spent a week each summer at the McKusick camp on Davis Pond swimming and boating and sleeping in the bunkhouse. Several decades later we met up again when he moved to Laconia, NH. Kent was ver specia - a talented actor on stage, a wonderful minister, and a great friend to all.

I met Kent at Ferry Beach while I volunteered one summer. Great guy, always smiling and ready to laugh. I feel like something will seem to be missing the next time I go.

Our deepest condolences to James and the rest of Kent´s family. I have good memories of his warm greetings at Ferry Beach during GAYLA. May he rest in eternal peace!

I will always remember the wonderful memorial service he put together for my husband after being in Ames a year & only meeting my husband once. He sat at our table with 10 relatives & got each of them to talk about him. Then he brought all those memories together in an amazing eulogy! He was a gifted minister & kind person! I miss him!
