Kermit N. Lisle, Jr

December 10, 1952 - August 7, 2016

Salem - Kermit N. Lisle, Jr., mental health nurse and retired Army Captain, a long-time resident of Salem, OR, died unexpectedly at the age of 63 on a camping trip with family.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen Jo Lisle; his children: Mollie Gundersen (KJ) of Lake Oswego, OR; Andrew Lisle (Stephanie) of Honolulu, HI; Tabitha Borne (Kyle) of Leavenworth, KS; and Rachel Lisle of Salem, OR. His grandchildren are Magdalena and Emmeline Borne and Madeleine Gundersen.

Kermit was born in Riverside, CA on December 10th, 1952 to Kermit N. Lisle, Sr. and Hazel Beatrice Forney. Kermit was the 4th oldest of 7 children. He received his Master's in Business Administration from National University in San Diego, CA in 1986 and a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR in 2006. He initially enlisted in the Army in 1972 as a military policeman, first stationed in Germany, and then enlisted in the Navy in 1982 until 1986. He subsequently received his direct commission in 2004 into the Army Reserve as a first lieutenant and served as commanding officer of the 1972nd Combat Operational Stress Control detachment, retiring in 2012 as a Captain.

On August 29th, 1981 Kermit married his college crush, Kathy, in Ashland, OR. He was a devout father and grandfather who enjoyed golfing and the outdoors. In his last year, he spent 15 weeks traveling the country to reconnect with family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed reading and was proud of the fact he could finish four novels in a week. He was also proud of his public service as a precinct committee member in both Salem, OR and Medford, OR, as well as serving as a city council member of Medford, OR. Never wanting to back down from a good debate, he was always ready to engage in spirited conversation.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His funeral will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church on August 13th at 6:00 PM with burial to follow at Willamette National Cemetery August 16th at 9:00 AM.
