Kevin Eby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 31, 2023.
On May 26, 2023, dearly beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Kevin David Eby, went home to be with Jesus. Heaven gained another beautiful angel.

Kevin now watches over his wife Maria, son Jakob, mom Barbara Davis, step-dad Gary Davis, sisters Kelly Pless, Heidi Moon, and Heather Oslund as well as numerous other relatives and friends near and far. He was welcomed up there by his father David, step-mom Brooke, and sister Kim in addition to other extended family. As sad as we are, we know he's up in heaven, charming everyone like he did here on Earth. Whether through his infectious laugh, his quick, and sometimes dry wit, his caring and compassionate nature, or his awe-inspiring ability to master every sport he ever tried, Kevin blessed everyone he came in contact with. He loved helping people and would do anything for his family and friends, even if that meant taking off work or changing personal plans. He cared so deeply for others.

Kevin loved sports. He was a kicker at Presbyterian College and couldn't wait to turn Jakob into one too. One of Kevin's greatest joys was coaching and watching Jakob play sports. He was so good with kids, so incredibly patient. Don't get it wrong, he wanted to win, but he knew sports could be a lifeline and wanted to make sure the kids had fun while playing. He did the same serving in the children's ministry area at Lifepointe Church in Fort Mill, South Carolina, so patient, so kind, so vested in making sure his kids knew they were loved, not just here on earth but also in Heaven above, and that nothing they did could ever take that away.

Playing volleyball was how Kevin and Maria first met. For someone who didn't play the sport until college, he quickly made his mark on the local volleyball scene. He played for many years, impressing others not only with his ability but also for the selfless person he was. Even though he would beat on people during games, often talking smack while doing so, not one person ever said a bad word about him. Because there wasn't anything bad to say. Kevin was just that good of a guy. But volleyball was just one of the many sports in which Kevin excelled. Whether it was basketball or golf, kickball or skiing, softball or cornhole, Kevin was frustratingly good, affectionately earning the nickname 'All-American.'

Did we also mention Kevin can sing? Singing was the way he loved to connect with God the most. Whether it was on the karaoke stage, singing Garth on cruise ships, or praising on the Worship Team, Kevin's singing brought smiles to all who heard it.

To commemorate him, there will be a Celebration of Life on June 2, 2023, at 11:00am at Lifepointe Church in Fort Mill, SC. In honor of Kevin's favorite things, we are asking friends and family to dress casually and wear their favorite ball cap, then join us for some bbq and cornhole immediately following the service. If you are unable to attend in person, a livestream will be available.

An additional service will also take place on June 13, 2023, at The Pointe in Estanollee, Georgia. Visitation starts at 1:00pm with a Celebration of Life following at 2:00pm.

To say Kevin will be missed is a huge understatement. To know him was to love him. He loved God, his wife, his son, his family and his friends with all he had. Though we are heartbroken, we are filled with joy that he is finally at peace, separated form the torment that is Huntington's Disease. We are asking in lieu of flowers, that you consider sending a donation in his memory to the Huntington's Disease Society of America - www.hdsa.org.

We also ask that you carry on his amazing legacy by loving each other like Kevin did - selflessly, unconditionally, completely. God bless!

I remember the first time Kevin ever coached me in basketball I was five. He would always want to get me and my teammates so much better. After games, he would always give me pointers and things that he would be up to work on with me, but the best memories were when I was 8. He used to be so energetic when I would play and take me to all my practices. I hate that he's gone now and I wish time would turn back so I can see him be happy for one more go.
