Kim Burek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 27 to Jun. 1, 2005.
BUREK _ Kim 1966 - 2005 We are heartbroken to have to announce the loss of our daughter, sister, wife, niece, cousin and great friend. Kim Ruth Burek, born May 27, 1966, passed away on May 26, 2005 at the University Hospital in Edmonton, only three and a half months after receiving a liver transplant. Kim's battle with liver disease began several years ago and her courage and determination to live inspired her family, friends, as well as the medical community. To us, her transplant was a miracle and our hopes were so high for a bright and healthy future. Kim did not leave us willingly and she will be greatly missed by those who love her. Left to carry on her light are, her loving father Christian; devoted sister Tanya; common-law husband Terry McMahon; former husband and lifelong friend, Walter Porochnuk; uncle Wolfgang and aunt Hilde Trebing; cousins and family, Gabriele and Italo Pisanu (Christian and Sandra), Vera and Jurgen Gunkel (Thomas, Tanja and Lena), Ulrike and Gerhard Trebing (Patricia and Jennifer); aunt Lotte Burek and cousins Detlef, Claudia and Christof. A Celebration of Kim's Life will be held at Lakeview United Church (3023 - 63 Avenue S.W.) on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded to the family through www.commemorativeservices.ca. In lieu of flowers, we ask that those wishing to make a donation contact the Canadian Liver Foundation (No. 1500, 2235 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto, Ontario M2J 5B5. Telephone 1-800-563-5483). Arrangements in care of COMMEMORATIVE SERVICES FUNERAL DIRECTORS. Telephone: 265-1199. Calgary Family Owned and Operated "Celebrating the Lives of our Community"

Kim, Jeff and I attended your funeral today. It was so touching to see some many people gathering to remember you. So many wonderful things were said about you and all of them spot on, you would have been proud.

Be safe where ever you are, may you be at peace and happy.

Miss you.

It's been so long since I've heard your voice...I suppose now I won't be hearing it for a long time! Well I just wanted to say that you did live a very meaningful life, you touched so many people including me. I will remember all the good times we shared together, especially p.m. yoga! But I hope you'll get to be with your mom, and I know that everyone you touched will love and miss you forever. We love you China Doll

Kim - All words seem hollow and meaningless and yet, somehow, I hope that they will bring a small degree of comfort to Chris and Tanya. Finally relieved of what must have been your unimagineable discomfort, I hope that you will now enjoy the peace you so deserve. It's been ages since we last spoke, and yet through friends and family, you have been in my thoughts. Give your mother a big hug from Sandra and I, please.

You will truly be missed. You had such a unique talent for design, and your humor and lust for life were contagious. I'm so glad to have known you.
