Korey McDONALD Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal from Aug. 31 to Sep. 1, 2017.
McDONALD, Korey Cecelia
(nee Bokenfohr)
Korey McDonald passed away August 29, 2017, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 59. Korey was the cherished wife of 37 years to Ian McDonald and proud mother to Ryan, Andrea, Ross and Brett. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Erin and Alyssa, and by her three grandchildren, Brady, Madelyn and Zoey, who were one of her greatest sources of joy and whom she loved and adored deeply.
Also mourning her loss are her siblings, Kevin (Bonnie), Joy (Dean), Janet, and her step- siblings, Paul (Cheryl), Dennis and Lise. Korey was predeceased by her mother, Yvonne Morin; her father, Bernard Bokenfohr; stepfather, Bill Morin; mother-in- law, Jean McDonald; brother-in-law, Doug Forsyth and her loyal dog, Abby. She will also be missed by her numerous nieces and nephews and by the many other members of her loving, extended family. Korey will be lovingly remembered by so many special, close friends – too many to name.
Korey, a retired Edmonton Catholic schoolteacher, was an exceptional and inspirational person. She blessed us all with her beauty, empathy, positivity, humour and grace. She was vibrant and fun-loving and her smile lit up every room she entered. She was the most supportive mother and doting "Grammy," and just someone who got along with anyone. One of her greatest qualities was her work ethic. Following her retirement from teaching, she used her savvy and smarts to play a main role running the family businesses. Korey could most often be found booking her next flight and planning her next adventure. She travelled the world with her husband, kids, sisters and friends. She approached life with a child-like wonder and enjoyed everything from concerts to reading books for her book club, to spending time in Kelowna and spoiling Gallagher, the family dog.
While her diagnosis with cancer came as a sudden shock, she will be remembered for the bravery and strength with which she faced it, fought it, and continued to live her life despite it. Her family extend their most sincere thanks to her oncologist, Dr. Andrew Scarfe, physician, Dr. Christine Sharek, and Edmonton Palliative Homecare, as well as the staff and volunteers at the Edmonton Cross Cancer Institute for the exceptional compassion and care they gave her.
Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18407 – 60 Avenue, Edmonton. A private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute or to the Edmonton Humane Society.

Ian and family,
I extend my sincere condolences for the loss of your beloved Korey. She was a beautiful colleague and worked with my mother at Saint Augustine school for many years. Korey lived only houses down from our family during our childhood. She will be fondly remembered. May her soul rest in peace.

May God's love surround you and provide you with strength and courage during this difficult time.

With deepest sympathy ,

Dear Ian and family -
I am so very, very sorry for the loss of Korey - leaving a gaping hole in your family circle. She was such a bright spark with a million megawatt smile and a very kind and giving person. Though our times together were many years ago - they've not been forgotten. Nor will Korey ever be forgotten for she will live on in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched. Dear Ian, Kevin, Joy, Janet and families,
We are so sorry to know that Korey left this earth much too soon. My fondest memories of Korey wander back to the carefree summer days we spent together at the lake so many years ago. We also surprisingly met up on another beach, Waikiki, and enjoyed a very special Christmas together. These are but a few of the memories I will always cherish!

Dear Korey, dear Ian,
I remember your last visit to Vienna and when I said good bye at the train station, when you left for Prague. Full of joy and enthusiasm you and Ian got into the train and you promised to visit us again. For us it was sure, that this will happen.
But life is unpredictable, and we cannot believe, that we will not meet each other in this world again. You have been one of the most admirable persons we got to know. You have fought a brave fight against cancer and now lost. You leave behind a big gap in your family and in our hearts as well. We are sad not to hear your warm hearted laughing again, not to see your open minded face and not to share your wise thoughts. We are sad not to meet and visit a museum, a Viennese Coffeehouse, Canada Banff where you are only allowed to leave your footprint or the Calgary Stampede We remember your great talent for organization and your hospitality. We are sad but believe and hope that you can from now on look upon us from heaven without any pain.
Our thoughts and prayers to Ian, your wonderful husband and the entire family.
