Kurt Julius Herrmann

1918 - June 18, 2016 At 97 years old Kurt passed away the morning of June 18, 2016 in Los Angeles. His mind was crystal clear to the very end, even though his physical body was finally failing him. Kurt was born in Hildesheim, Germany but lived most of his young life in Nordhausen, Germany. He survived witnessing the atrocities of Crystal Night at the time of Hitler's rise. He escaped to the US and returned to Germany as a soldier as part of the "Greatest Generation" to defeat Hitler. He lost his parents and grandmother among many others to the Holocaust. After the war he made his way to Los Angeles and started a driving school (which lasted close to 40 years). He met his wife Ursula Sue Grosz as a student/teacher romance. They were married 51 years before her passing in 2001. Kurt is survived by one son, Robert Herrmann, daughter-in-law Barbara Neuberg Herrmann and grandsons Joshua Herrmann (and wife Amy Herrmann) and Jonathan Herrmann. He lived long enough to see amazing things and embraced enough technology to communicate using Social Media with family and friends. His focus was always on family, genealogy, golf, nature, never forgetting the Holocaust, doting on his grandsons and diving into news events and sports of the day. Retired for many years, he watched his generation pass but as recently as a couple months ago gave talks to groups about the Holocaust. He had documented his experiences of his youth during WWII and published these memories in a book "Darling Mutti." We all love and miss him very much and are grateful for the full life he lived and the folks he touched along the way. Services are at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, followed by interment with his beloved wife; 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90038 on Friday, June 24th at 9:00 A.M.
