I never met Larry, but I knew him as Stranger on 42-online. Always enjoyed playing with him. I read the Lufkin Daily News obits daily, as I'm originally from the area, I read his and didn't realize it was someone I'd met at the tables so many times.

My prayers are with your family.

Please know your family will be kept in our prayers. I did not know him personally, but, as many that have expressed condolences, I knew him from playing 42 online. He was a very sweet man and he will be missed. gaynel_2000

My prayers to Stranger's family. We played 42 many times and he will be missed. His concerns were always for his grandson and not for himself. God bless you all.

There are things that you wish you could or would have said to someone and at times like this you realize how you missed many, many opportunities. I met Larry and Karen about four years ago. I was the stray from Tennessee who showed up on their doorstep unannounced many, many times when I visited Lufkin and was allowed to become a part of the family. Larry reminded me of the quiet Texan you would see in the movies. He did not say alot, but when he did you listened. The man had a lot of wisdom earned by experiencing many things during his life time. These experiences made Larry the man that I will remember. I have fond memories watching Larry play with his Grandchildren. They had him wrapped around their fingers. Larry would not admit it (his being wrapped around their fingers)when I would mention that to him, but he loved the Grandfather role and would do anything for the Grand children. Something I will always cherish is spending time with Larry sitting on the front porch of the apartment. Many a morning or evening after I moved to Lufkin we would sit out there. Larry would ask if I wanted a Mountain Dew (I probably owed him a truck load, but he would always say forget it when I offered to pay him and Karen back) and we would talk about specific topics or about nothing really important. It was a chance to talk with a great friend...I wish I had had another opportunity to sit out there with Larry and just watch the world go by. I am sad that Larry has moved on and I wish that I could be there to say good-bye, but I know that the physical problems are not bothering him now and that he will be keeping an eye on Karen and the family. Knowing Larry he is probably setting up his new computer in heaven right now and looking for players to start a league.

I met Larry only once, at a 42 tournament in Seagoville, TX. Online and in person he was a very kind and caring person, as well as a great 42 player. I send my sympathy to his family.
