Leah Gleason Obituary

Leah Ashton Gleason
When she was a youthful 98, Leah Gleason was asked, What is the secret to your longevity?? She responded without hesitation, "If I knew the answer to that, do you think I would still be doing it!"
Our quick-witted and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother Leah Ashton Gleason passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, October 19, 2006, after a long and wonderful partnership with life. If she figured out the secret to longevity, she wasn?t talking.
She was born September 6, 1907, in Provo, Utah and lived in Provo her entire life. A member of the LDS Church, she served faithfully in almost every capacity imaginable in the church auxiliaries. Leah married Anton Jacobson Gleason in the Salt Lake Temple December 27, 1935 and together they served a 3-year building mission in England, and worked for many years in the Provo Temple.
Using her many talents to serve others, she became an excellent seamstress, and cook. She worked tirelessly on genealogy and loved to share stories with her grandchildren. Leah was the proud mother of four, grandmother of 12, great-grandmother of 42, and great-great grandmother of one. She was preceded in death by her husband Tony, parents John Thomas Ashton and Elnora Davis, brothers: Clarence, Frank, and Jess Ashton; sister Lenore Olsen; son Jon Anton Gleason; grandson Daniel Field; great-grandson Matthew Field; and son-in-law Merrill Hone.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Ray) Field, and Alene (Merrill) Hone, son, Tom (Marcela) Gleason, brother-in-law, Ferris Olsen and close friends, Charles and Peggy Reay.
She will be remembered by all who knew her for her excellent sense of humor, and her ability to laugh in the face of adversity. She strengthened all those around her with the gift to laugh at herself.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 24th at 11 a.m. at the Stadium Ave. chapel 650 E. Stadium Ave., Provo, Ut. A viewing will be held Monday, Oct. 23 from 6-8 p.m. at the same location.

I received my last note from her about a year ago. She and Tony were such great people. She couldn't see well but she once drove to church using the excuse that "the car knew the way". Does anyone remember who she fed strawberries and shaving cream to?

I love Aunt Leah and all the things she did for me and everyone else. She was always cracking jokes and she made me laugh everytime i saw her. I love you Aunt Leah and will always remember you!

A sweet fun lady has gone on to brighten heaven a little more! She is someone I have always admired and will remember her sharp wit forever. How lucky the world has been to have had her so long and the family to have been blessed with her love and support. What a legacy she leaves behind.
