Lee L. "Pete" Hartman

Lee Hartman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 16 to Dec. 17, 2008.
MIFFLINBURG - Lee L. "Pete" Hartman, 61, of 6611 Buffalo Road since 1948, entered into rest at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born April 1, 1947, in Buffalo Township, a son of the late Marlin E. and Rosella C. (Yost) Hartman. On Nov. 15, 1975, at Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, he married the former Debra A. Kratzer, who survives.
Pete was a 1965 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.
He was employed as a draftsman at Milton Manufacturing from 1965 to 1973. In 1973, he began working at the Marlin E. Hartman family auto wrecking business. After his father passed away in March 1975, Pete and his brothers, Coon and Skip, owned and continued to operate the family business. Beginning in 1979, the Hartmans also leased trucks to Eastern Industries, Winfield.
Pete attended Port Ann Wesleyan Church.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and re-loading his own ammunition before the next hunt.
Pete was a wonderful, caring person and always thought of everyone else before himself. He possessed a personality that afforded him the ability to talk to anyone. With Pete, you were only a stranger for a minute. He would ask you many questions, including your name and where you were from, and before long, he was your friend. He loved children and tended to spoil them whenever possible. Anyone who had the privilege to know Pete knew he was a big teddy bear with a loving heart.
In addition to his wife of 33 years, he is survived by two sisters, Ida Mae Hartman and Caroline E. Hartman, both of Mifflinburg; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Graydon and Ruby Kratzer of Lewisburg; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald and Ruth Ettinger; niece, Tasha Rute and her husband Jerry; nephew Shane Ettinger and his wife Heather; great-niece, Erin Rute; great-nephews, Andrew Rute and Zachary Ettinger, all of Mifflinburg; and loyal friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilson E. "Coon" Hartman and Kenneth C. "Skip" Hartman, and one sister, Barbara Ann Hartman, in infancy.
Visitors may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg, and 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Port Ann Wesleyan Church, 2856 Troxelville Road, Middleburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 2 with Pastor Paul Sheets and the Rev. Ned L. Knisely officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pete's memory to Port Ann Wesleyan Church, 2856 Troxelville Road, Middleburg, PA 17842.

My sincerest sympathies to the family of Lee L. "Pete" Hartman.

And, though he and I never meant, we share the same sirname, and possibly even more linkage, geneologically speaking, for which I am most interested in sharing.

Stuart Alfred Hartman of Grovania (rural Danville, Pa) was my grandfather, and Paul Le Roy Hartman of Towanda, Pa was my father.

Most respectfully yours,

Lori Yacko

Deb: I'm so sorry I didn't know about this sooner because you know I would have been there last week. Pete will always have a special place in my memories and heart. His laugh, his way of finding out things you really didn't want to tell him, the way he liked to get his way (and usually did), and his big 'ole heart. My one special memory (seems so long ago now) is when you and Pete and me and Ronnie (Erbie as Pete called him) were playing the game Sorry. Up until then I thought I knew how to play Sorry, but Pete made up his own rules along the way and I was totally confused!! What a character! He will be missed by so many people as he certainly touched the lives of many. Bless you, Ida Mae and Caroline and your entire family throughout this time. Love you -

Deb, Ida Mae, and Caroline
I am sorry to hear about your loss. It is never easy to lose someone that you love very dearly. Even though you knew the end was near, it wasn't any easier. One positive thing is that he is in heaven with his brothers, his momo and dad, and his uncle Carl exchanging jokes, and stories. My thoughts and prayers are with you all today. "Remember the good times for they last forever".

Deb,
May God be with you during this most difficult time in your life.
It was my pleasure knowing Pete as family, memories that will never be forgotten.
He did ask alot of questions and "Am I right or am I wrong?" was his favorite! Pete was always right!
I loved baking cakes for Pete way back when, that was how I became his friend!
He will be missed but knowing he is at peace in the arms of Jesus brings peace to those who loved him.

Debbie, I was very sad to hear of Pete's passing. I have fond memories of him from when you and I worked together, and coming to visit at your home. The last time I saw Pete was when I still worked at Lowe's and he immediately remembered me.
I know that life interferes with friendships, and for that I truly apologize. But please know that I think of you all the time, and please know that prayers are being sent your way.

REFLECTIONS
As I gaze out through my window
On this dismal cloudy day;
I can help but pause and ponder
Why the sky is sometimes gray.

Then I stop and think a moment
And I pause to reminise;
If it weren't for those gray skies
Blue skies wouldn't hold such bliss.

So it is with lifes' encounters
Some are trials for a day;
If we'll keep out faith in Jesus
He'll sustain us all the way.

My memories of Pete start way back when I was just a child ... Pete and Coon took me and my sisters fishing and I got my line caught in a tree but it was okay. No yelling or fussing about it. I can't recall if we even caught any fish, but we laughed about the line in the tree for many years after.

I also remember late nights playing Monopoly around our kitchen table. Pete was a formidable competitor and didn't apologize for winning big, but oh, it was so much fun!

And then there were the times when we butchered and were awakened when Pete arrived and spoke too loudly beneath our bedroom windows.

I will always remember Pete with the fondest of memories for his kindness to his younger cousin .. he was one of those cousins that you love to know. He surely was a blessing!

Hugs and prayers to Debbie, Caroline and Ida Mae during the next days! Pete will be missed!

Love,
