Leland Schick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 4, 2025.
Leland R. Schick, 86, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, in Fort Myers, Florida. Born on December 22, 1938, in Logan, Kansas, Leland was raised on the family farm where he developed a strong work ethic, deep values, and pride in his roots.

Leland graduated from Logan High School before attending Kansas State University. Following his education, he served honorably in the United States Army and was discharged in 1958. His sense of duty and commitment carried over into every aspect of his life.

He went on to build a successful career with General Electric, where he worked for 31 years. His professional journey took him and his family to many different places as he moved often to advance within the company. Through each transition, Leland remained steadfast in his work ethic and loyalty.

Leland is remembered with love by his wife of 67 years, Doris Edith Schick; daughter Carrie (James) Loftus born in Phillipsburg, KS; sons Tim born in Phillipsburg, KS, Jeff Schick (Eva), born in Owensboro, KY, and Ryan Reese-Beltrand (Jennifer) born in Doylestown, PA as well as daughter-in-Law, Elizabeth Corwin Schick of Naugatuck, CT. He will also be remembered by his three siblings, He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Esther Schick, and by his son Leland R. Schick Jr.

Nothing brought Leland more happiness than time spent with his grandchildren: Jennifer (Fred), Bob (Deb), Regina (Scott), David, Leland III, Daniel (Mara), Ashley, Matthew, Melissa (Jake), Simon, Jake, Kristen, Boston, Chloe and Juniper and four great grand kids. A lover of games and good company, he was known for teaching each grandchild how to play cards as soon as they could sit up. His legendary card tournaments became cherished traditions at family reunions-events filled with laughter, friendly competition, and the warmth of togetherness.

In 2018, Leland became a member of Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, where he found spiritual community and fellowship. He also gave generously of his time as a volunteer at the Harry Chapin Food Bank for many years-an extension of the kindness and generosity that defined him throughout his life.

A kind and generous man whose life was defined by unwavering dedication to those around him, Leland also found joy in traveling and giving back to others through service. His was a life well-lived and well-loved.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held on June 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church 11381 Gateway Blvd

We are so sorry to hear of Lee´s passing! We were neighbors and friends before he and Edith moved. We spent fun times going to ballgames at Hammond stadium and were big fans of the then Miracle minor league team. Members of the "Gallery Gang"!...
Rest in peace, Lee!
