EDEN — Leslie Robert Martin, 58, of 915 Elm Street, after a courageous and gallant battle with cancer, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.
A funeral service will be held at Fair Funeral Home Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday with the visitation to be held one hour prior to the service.
Leslie was the beloved husband of Grey Eubanks Martin of the home; and the father of Amy Eubanks, Derek Martin, David Martin, and Carla Kennon; PaPa of Taylor Eubanks, Paisley Martin, and Zach Kennon; and the son of Clyde and Ada Martin.
Leslie was born March 10, 1953 to Clyde and Ada Martin in Leaksville. He graduated from Wentworth High School in 1971. He had two children Amy and Derek, whom he loved dearly and was so very proud of. He married Grey Eubanks Martin in 1990 and gained two more children David and Carla, whom he loved dearly.
He worked for Miller Brewing Company for 26 years until a motorcycle accident in 2003 disabled him. His life was changed from that day both physically and spiritually when he asked God to come into his life while lying in the road all broken. A tragedy some thought, but the best day of his, Grey's and his family's life. So many blessings and good things came out of that accident. He often told people that he would go through it all again, the pain and suffering from the accident to be where he is spiritually now.
He was a member at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Eden where he taught Sunday School, was a Trustee, and the Treasurer until lung cancer made it impossible for him to do so. He loved his church and church family. He loved the Lord and continually praised Him for all He had done in his life. Through his walk with God, all Leslie wanted was to be an inspiration and blessing to someone.. And that he was. His walk with God, his strength from his faith, and his attitude was a true blessing to his family and friends.
When he learned of his cancer and a short time to live, he prayed just for the time to see his two granddaughters, Taylor and Paisley born. He was a proud PaPa. He loved his family. The Lord truly blessed him and his family these passed eight years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Grey Eubanks Martin; his daughter Amy M. Eubanks and her husband Steve, and their daughter Taylor of Reidsville, his son; Derek and wife Brooke, and their daughter Paisley of Randleman, son; David Martin and wife Misty, daughter; Carla M. Kennon and her son Zach all of Eden, parents; Clyde and Ada Martin of Reidsville, sister Cindy Edwards and husband Corky of Browns Summit, his former wife; Judy Carroll and the Carroll family and an abundance of family that he treasured and friends that he considered family.
Leslie had a burden for his family and friends to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior; he prayed for them daily. No amount of words can sum up his life, his strong faith, and wonderful testimony. We know he is in God's loving care and for that, we are so thankful. We will miss his warm smile.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 8460 Hwy 14 Eden, NC 27288 or to Hospice of Rockingham County , 2150 NC hwy 65, Wentworth, NC 27320.

Leslie was one of those special people that we were blessed with knowing these past few years. His testimony was a shining light to all who knew him and it shown brighter each and every time we were fortunate enough to see and speak with him. Our hearts and prayers go out to Grey and the family. As sorrowful as this past Thursday was, take comfort in knowing that Thursday was the day that Leslie saw the face of God. He may be gone from this earthly life, but he will never be forgotten. There are so many of us who were touched by his testimony and his faith. May the Lord continue to bless and comfort Grey and Leslie's extended family during this time of mourning. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to you all at this time.

As the Angels protect him and sing his name.We honor his life with the glow of this flame. So I light this candle for Les tonight as a symbol of his eternal life.
