Leslie Rickard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 14, 2010.
Leslie Ross Rickard Jr., 66, of Tuscumbia, died Friday, March 12, 2010. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Morrison Funeral Home, of Tuscumbia. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel, with burial at New Hope Cemetery. Ed White and Carl Sigenthaler will officiate.

Mr. Rickard was a native of Woodstock, Tenn., but grew up in Central Heights, Ala., and graduated from Central High School. He was a boilermaker for local 455 and a member of Valdosta Church of Christ. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a very talented blacksmith and ironworker. An inspirational Christian, Mr. Rickard loved his community and expressed that love by giving back through his art of blacksmith and ironworking. An example of this is the wrought iron fence around Ivy Green. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Drs. Syed, Carmichael and Williams, Dr. Syed's office, the nurse practitioners, especially Charlene Penn, all of the emergency responders, and a special friend, Jenny Hamby.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Vivian Rickard, of Tuscumbia; sons, Troy Rickard and wife, Lisa, of Florence, and Stan Rickard, of Tuscumbia; daughter, Lisa Robbins, of Tuscumbia; brothers, Charles Rickard and wife, Ann, of Florence, Gary Rickard and wife, Cristina, of Tuscumbia, and Jeff Rickard; and grandchildren, Cliff and Paige Robbins, of Tuscumbia, Ethan and Emily Rickard, of Florence, and Terrell Ross and Will Rickard, of Tuscumbia.

Pallbearers will be Troy and Stan Rickard, Joe Williams, Jarvis Atkins, Mike Roberts, Paul Morris, Gene Baron and Tony Wallace.

Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Lovelace, Clayton Hayes and Glenn Bevis.

We will miss you until we see you again. An online guestbook is available at morrisonfuneralhomes.com.

To the entire Rickard family and especially Vivian, Lisa, Paige and Cliff,

I heard about your loss just today and I am sorry I have not checked on Leslie sooner. It came as a great shock to me because he seemed to be doing so well the last time we talked. You all have our deepest condolences as well as our prayers. I did not get to know Leslie as well as I would have liked to. Just this weekend, I thought of him as I was replacing a handle in my great grandfather's blacksmith hammer. If this simple task brought him to my mind, I know there are a thousand sounds and objects from his trade that will bring back memories for all of you. I hope and pray that these happy memories will replace the sorrow and loss you now feel and perhaps bring you smiles as you remember the time you had with Leslie. Our thoughts are with you all.

Dr. Adam, Jennifer, Sydney and Braxton Dickerson.

To Paige and Cliff. I want you to know how very sorry I am for your loss. I know how proud Les was of you both and how much joy you brought to his life. You have both developed into wonderful young adults with great futures ahead of you. Use your Papa's advice and love as you go forward and always think of him when life's challenges come at you and let his training guide you. I love you both. Dad

Where do I begin to start. Leslie is forever in my childhood memories, growing up next door to you all. The first thing I think of is laughter, he was such a joyful person. He was always cordial and inviting to anyone he met. I am thankful to have been able to spend many days in Leslie's company. I Pray that God strengthens your family bond right now in this time of need. I love you all, and I know this is a great loss for you. My utmost sympathies, Leslie will be deeply missed.

Sonny Rikard was more than one of my favorite kin. He was at the top of the list of my favorite people. His true southern charm and humor were but a few of his many quailties. His love, support, and encouragement for his family and friends is a legacy we will all remember about this giant of a man.

Vivian, Troy, Lisa and family.
I was so deeply sorry to get the sad news of Les' passing. Since I heard about it, there have been very few moments that I have not reflected back on the wonderful times we had together. The many laughs we had telling eachother funny stories. The many many phone calls we shared tying to put guys to work in different places. He was trully an extremely dynamic individual and a great friend. I will never forget that deep booming roar when he was happy and laughing.
I am so sorry that I will be unable to attend the funeral due to medical appointments. I always loved the visits we shared when I was traveling to Iuka to see my cousins. I hope to visit again, but if I do there will be missing a huge section of the picture.
My heart and prayers are with everyone!
He had many many friends and I am very proud to feel that I was considered one of them.
