Liang Chou Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun on May 5, 2007.

CHOU _ Dr. Liang Ying Born May 1st, 1920, passed away peacefully after celebrating his birthday May 1st, 2007. He was surrounded by the love of his wife: Wynnie, children: Christine, Wayne (May), Alan (Debra) and grandchildren: Jillian, Emily, Marley and Christopher. Ying graduated from Lingnam University Medical School in Canton, China in 1945 and came to Canada to study Pediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children on College Street, Toronto. This was followed by a year's fellowship with the University of British Columbia and a further 2 years post graduate work in Pediatrics at St. Paul's Hospital, where he then joined in 1953 the Sisters and staff, and went into private practice until his retirement in 1988. Dr. Chou is remembered fondly and with respect by his colleagues and the many thousands of once young patients whom he cared for in his years of practice. He was a family man who gave generously to his profession. In spite of the limits brought on by age, Ying and Wynnie enjoyed their golden years traveling and watching their grandchildren grow. The family thanks relatives and friends for their kindness and support over the last weeks since Ying's stroke. Flowers gratefully declined. A reception will be held at Shaughnessy Heights United Church Lounge, 1550 W. 33rd Avenue on Monday, May 14th from 2-4pm.

Dear Aunt Wynnie, Christine, Wayne and Allen: I am very saddened by the passing of Uncle Ying. In the past few days, the fond memories of meeting him in Vancouver more than twenty years ago and the recent family reunions have kept coming back in my mind. He is a very gentle, kind and caring person. Seeing him reminds me of our grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

My deepest sympathy and love,

Dear Christine, death of a close family member is never easy and takes time to get over. Realize though that no one can take away the beautiful memories that you have shared with your dad - cherish them! May his soul rest in peace and God give your mom and all of you the strength to do what you need to do in the days ahead.
Love and hugs,
Shefali Raja.
