Linda Kozel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 24 to Nov. 28, 2023.
Linda Jean Kozel (McGann), 66, passed away on November 14, 2023, at her home in Yarmouth, Maine. She was born on November 12, 1957, in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Robert and Mildred McGann (Jenkins).

Linda was a Yarmouth native, having grown up on East Main Street and graduating from Yarmouth High School in 1976. During this time, she participated in the school chorus, was a cheerleader, and volunteered over 300 hours as a Candy Striper at Maine Medical Hospital.

She married Michael Beaumont with whom she had her two daughters, Jessica and Nicole, whom she loved with all her heart. They were fortunate to also grow up in Yarmouth having many of the same teachers and exploring the same neighborhoods.

She had an eclectic work history having been a florist, car salesperson, and her favorite career as a cruise specialist. She enjoyed spending her personal time as a performer in the Sweet Adelines Royal River Chorus for many years, as well as dedicating time to non-profit feline rescue agencies.

Later in life she met her perfect match in Michael Kozel. Though their time together was short, they experienced life to the fullest riding his motorcycle, living off the grid, playing guitars and singing.

Her most cherished activity was spending time with her grandchildren, Isabel, Ava, Harper, and Liam. She was always finding animals to visit, making homemade ice cream, and showering them with all the love she had. A close second was her love for her kitties, CoCo and Jasmine. She would often be found driving around her neighborhood at all hours of the night trying to get them back inside.

Many enjoyed her love language of cooking, whether she made beef stew, goulash, baked beans, or something for your sweet tooth. Her favorite item to make were Rice Crispy Treats for her niece Erica.

Linda will be remembered for her loving nature, kind heart, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. She will also be remembered for her unfiltered delivery, unique personality, and the ability to march to her own drum.

She was predeceased by her husband, Michael S. Kozel, her parents Robert R and Mildred G McGann.

She is survived by her daughters, Jessica Beaumont Westhaver (husband Jesse) of Bristol, and Nicole Gosselin (husband Kurk) of Sanford; sister Patricia Gould (husband John) of Georgia, and brother Steven McGann of Freeport; grandchildren, Isabel Lemieux, Ava Gosselin, Harper Westhaver, and Liam Gosselin; her niece Erica England, and nephew Cole England; as well as many cousins and wonderful friends.

A ceremony to celebrate Linda's life will be held on December 7th at 11am at the First Parish Church at 116 Main Street, Yarmouth, Maine.

Linda's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Friends of Feral Felines or any non-profit animal rescue organization, in memory of Linda Jean Kozel.

I remember Linda from high school and enjoyed reconnecting with her in facebook. I often thought of her bravery to sing in front of people in high school. She spoke so lovingly about her daughters and grandchildren. My deepest sympathies. Jane Clifford OBrien

Last year, I had a very bad fall. In addition to a concussion, I broke my neck and my back. Linda didn't know me, but she heard about my accident from a neighbor. She made several meals for us and spread her kindness around generously. I was sorry to learn of her passing and I join many others in remembering her fondly and sending heartfelt condolences to her family.

Linda was an effervescent and irrepressible soul. She enlivened every space and gathering. I am so very sorry for her family that she is gone way too soon. She was a woman who continued to become more wonderful with time and life experience. Her loss aggrieved us all.

I spent a year with Linda, and I count myself supremely lucky for that time. When I came to Maine I needed a place to live. She had a room for rent. She regaled me with stories of family, friends, the history of Yarmouth, and every dream she made manifest in her life. I absorbed every detail. She became a second mom to me and helped me deal with the stress of working for CPS, navigating a new state, and she even with her wonderful family invited a complete stranger to thanksgiving. I was blessed.

Linda married my brother, who was taken away too soon. We became very close to the point where we declared ourselves sisters. We shared the good and the bad. Virtually held each others hands through tough times. We were always calling each other to see how we were doing. Sis I still get up in the morning thinking we'll have a conversation. RIP Sis. Know you will be missed.

Linda and I met on stage at Yarmouth High working on the annual variety show. She was an amazing interpretive dancer. I really was in awe of her style and talent. We lost touch due to our lives taking different paths but reconnected on Facebook about 12 years ago and it was really nice to catch up. She loved her children and grandchildren with herself whole heart. We had many good conversations and I will truly miss her. To her family, my deepest and most heartfelt sympathies. She was such a a beautiful person and her loss will touch the hearts of so many. I pray for peace and strength for your hearts in the rough days to follow. Celebrate the beautiful woman she was and know she is still right there with you in your hearts.
