Logan SCHATZ Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Apr. 11, 2018.
SCHATZ, Logan Logan Evan Schatz, of Allan, SK, passed away tragically on April 6, 2018, at the age of 20. Logan was born in Saskatoon to Bonnie and Kelly Schatz on September 16, 1997. Logan will be greatly missed by his parents, Bonnie and Kelly Schatz, sister Courtney (Tyler) Gilroyed and niece Claire, sister Kayla Schatz (Brendan Hamilton), brother Brandon Schatz (Maryssa Wilde), sister Meagan Schatz (Cody Hartley), girlfriend Amy Olynick, and grandparents Bruno and Phyllis Schatz, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by grandmother Etta Schatz, and grandparents Roy and Anne Evans. Logan grew up in Allan, where he attended school for his elementary years. He started his minor hockey journey in Allan, but later played in various communities, including Viscount, Colonsay, Clavet, and Warman, and for the SaskValley Vipers. At the age of fifteen, hockey took him to Beardy's, and during this time, he lived in Martensville. Soon after, Logan was called up to play for the Humboldt Broncos as an underage player. Logan remained with the Bronco family for the next four years, two and a half in which he was honoured as the team captain. He attended Humboldt Collegiate and was able to graduate in his hometown of Allan. Over the course of his hockey career, Logan became a part of three loving billet families: Georjeana and Dean Christianson (Madilyn and Ryder), Lance and Michelle Unger (Chase, Madi, and Drayke), and Colin and Amanda Brochu (Miller, Duke, and Sean). Ball hockey was another one of Logan's passions; it took him all over the country along with overseas, where he represented Team Canada. His local team in Saskatoon was the Rotten Donkeys, and he loved to play against his older brother's team. Logan also represented Saskatchewan at Men's Ball Hockey Nationals with the Saskatoon Buffalo. When Logan was off the ice, he excelled in track and field. He also loved golfing, working out in the gym, being the life of the party (he was the beer pong champion), and at a young age, he even experimented in dance. Logan was a born leader who lit up every room with a smile and a hug. His loud, contagious laughter filled any space and often got him into trouble. Logan was a kind-hearted role model who motivated young athletes to pursue their dreams. Above all, family meant everything to Logan. The five siblings share a special bond, and his presence will be forever missed, but never forgotten. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 15, at 1 p.m. at the Allan Communiplex, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Logan's legacy. During the service, anyone wishing to share a story, memory, poem, or song dedicated to Logan will be invited to do so by his family. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Box 308 Allan SK, S0K 0C0 / #208 Maple Drive. Online condolences may be left at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com Arrangements entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME 306-244-5577.

On this, the first anniversary weekend(April6/7), it is an honour to remember Logan and the rest of the "Broncos" whose young lives were taken from the team & Humboldt, way too soon. It's also an honour to remember the injured players, many of whom who are recovering or who have done so. Ryan's recovery to date has been remarkable and I sincerely hope that he is able to walk again and fulfil his dream of playing for Canada's Sledge Hockey Team.
I had the opportnity to watch the anniversary memorial service on Saturday, a very fitting but emotional tribute
to "The Broncos" and Humboldt. BELIEVE! BE HUMBOLDT STRONG! Victoria, B.C.

June 7, 2018

Dear Schatz Family,
I'm amazed that it has been 2 months since the crash. So many beautiful lives were lost in an instant. I want you to know that nobody has forgotten. People still wear bracelets, stickers, bows, clothing items and much more to honour the boys and Dayna. I pray for them everyday. I watch the sky turn green and yellow. I cry a little every night because I'm still in shock, like most of the world. I didn't know Logan, but many people did, and I know how many lives he's touched. We love you so very much. we will never stop thinking about you, Logan, and everyone affected. Lots and lots of love sent your way.

I never had the privilege to meet Logan or watch him and his team mates play hockey, but I am compelled to write because this story has greatly affected me. From what I have read about Logan, I recognize that he was a very special, caring, dedicated, inspiring and talented young man. I know that I represent the sentiments of hundreds of thousands of people by expressing to the Schatz family my deepest sorrow and sadness on the loss of this remarkable person. Please know that you have the love, support and empathy from the people of Canada and the World to help you through this difficult time. Logan will live on forever in your hearts, but we will also make sure that the Captain of the Humboldt Broncos is not forgotten in ours either.

To all the Schatz families. Deepest Condolences on losing a loved one. Words can't express the sorrow that is felt for you and other families. We don't know each other but I grew up in Allan & my heart is aching for all of you. Our grandparents knew each other. This tragedy has left a hole in so many hearts and hope time and memories of Logan will ease your pain. Being a former hockey mom of 3 and whose son rode M. H. Tiger bus for many years I can only hope his time with the Broncos bring you comfort knowing he did what he loved and did it very well. Testament has shown he was a very exceptional player and caring person.
RIP Logan. Prayers and candles lit.

I do not know Logan or the family but as a former minor hockey coach in Victoria, B.C. & having travelled on buses, the tragedy that befell Adam, his teammates and team officials hit home!! My sincere condolences from Victoria, B.C. to the family & many relatives. Know that Adam was much loved and well respected by all whose lives he touched, most certainly his teammates, including the survivors. Treasure Adam's memory forever knowing that he is at peace & pain free.I'm reminded of the following words which hopefully brings comfort to all: "COUNT YOUR LIFE BY SMILES, NOT TEARS; COUNT YOUR AGE BY FRIENDS, NOT YEARS" RIP, ADAM, A "BRONCO" forever!

Loan's parents and siblings. I am Amy's aunt. It was to be the last Christmas we would spend together at my mother's home as a new family was moving into her house. Amy brought Logan to visit. We all sat around the table covered with food and danties. We visited laughing and joking and sharing a great time together as small community families do. Although I only got to spend a few hours with Logan I will never forget him. Rest in Hockey Paradise Logan til we meet again. Blessings to Logan's family. We on earth lost a very special person.

Logan coached our son last year with the U15 Team Sask in Ball Hockey. He was a great coach and one of few coaches that connected with our son. He took the time to play spike ball with them between games, giving feedback, motivating and encouraging the players - an amazing role model at then the young age of 19. We are thinking of you all with sympathy and prayers.

Humbolt strong

Too many days filled with strife
Where everything seems wrong
Rarely times will all unite
But then came Humbolt Strong

Comprehending how and why
Surreal the mind gets lost
Reasons for such magnitude
With much too high a cost

No matter where or what's gone on
As Nations tears do stream
Strangers join in spirit heart
As humbolt Strong's NEW team

Everywhere is every one;
Forever changed a lot
A magnanimous melancholic cloud
Will never be forgot

Fragility of life profound
Without a doubt to all
A need for comfort bluntly comes
Love answers to the call

Humbolt Strong Saskatchewan
From every walk of heart
Bucking up like Broncos Do
Right from the very start

With Broncos heart and Humbolt Strength
Let Love not lose its steam
forever We are Family now
forever one big team

A fact so purely proven here
is this: We all belong
So let this spirit stay with us
Bronco Humbolt Strong
