Lorraine Garcia-Gifford Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2022.
With great despair we had to say goodbye to a beautiful soul, Lorraine Andrea Garcia-Gifford, who passed away on August 18th, 2022.

She was surrounded by loads of loved ones on her last days and she would not have wanted it any other way. Her family was the most important thing in her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Sr. and Andrea Garcia; her brothers and sister, Joseph Jr., David (Tino) and Leonora Garcia; and beautiful nieces Davina Cherie Garcia and Amy Marie Bloom-Garcia.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Gifford; children Maurice Antonio Garcia, 52, Christina Marie Garcia, 48 (Michael Atlas), Tessa Raeann Gifford, 30 (Zach Bacon) and Kara Nicole Gifford, 26; grandchildren who she loved so much, Lorena (daughter Lira), Mia, Andrea and Jynnea Atlas and Antonio, Dillon, Maurice, Diangelo, Carlito, Mauricia, Damien, Rachel, Cameron, Valentina and Mateo Garcia; great grand children; brothers and sisters, Loura, Shirley (Jeff Soto), Tina, Eddie and Michael Garcia, and sister in law Gena Vasquez. She also has countless nieces and nephews, who she adored, as well as aunts, uncles and a heap of cousins.

Lorraine was born on July 3rd, 1954. She grew up in a small household packed with children and love in North Minneapolis. She was proud to be North Minneapolis, born and raised.

Lorraine always brought the party with her wherever she went! Everyone knew it was going to be a good time if Lorraine was going to be there. She made friends anywhere and everywhere, making all laugh along the way. Those she considered family were always just as important to her. Whether it be in-laws, her friends or the friends of her kids, she always made everyone feel like family.

She was passionate about many things-she loved to hit the dance floor, even if that meant the floor of her living room or gazebos. She could groove to anything but '70's soul was her absolute favorite. Since she was a kid, she loved the movie the Wizard of Oz and really believed "There's no place like home".

She loved to cook and bake, watch thriller movies and old TV shows like The Andy Griffith Show, Leave it to Beaver and The Golden Girls. She was a BIG TIME Vikings fan, believing every year was their year and cheering "VI-KINGS!" to anyone who could hear!

Lorraine's memorial and celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 26th, from 11-6, at Fish Lake Regional Park in Maple Grove, MN. All are welcome to attend.

The family has started a GoFundMe to help with memorial costs and medical expenses. Lorraine had a harder time this past year and endured many hospital and care facility stays. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Donations can also be mailed or electronically transferred to Lorraine's daughter Tessa. Contact a family member directly for address/electronic info.

Condolences to the Garcia family from the Urvina sisters We know each other from back when all the Mexican families in North Minneapolis saw each other at parties, celebrations and the Mexican dances that brought us all together as one. We are sorry to have missed the service, as we just learned of her passing. May Lorraine Rest in Heaven with her beloved brothers, sister and parents.

This memorial has Lorraine down to the T. Lorraine did always bring the party with her. Me & Lorraine had some fun times, and it's sad to think I'll never be able to have times like that again with her, at least not until I too take my journey back home. So sorry for your loss Tessa & Kara, I know you were both very close to your mom and I know from experience just how devastating it is to lose your mother. I wish I could say it gets easier, but unfortunately it doesn't for awhile anyway. Stay strong girls, you know that's what mom would want. Will keep you girls in our prayers.

Wow, Lorraine! The news of you passing away is unthinkable! Never in the 50 years I´ve known you did I ever imagine coming to your funeral! You were always so full of life! Always!
I´ve seen you go through rough times but the good times definitely outnumber those by a long shot!
When I was young (still in high school) you taught me things my own sisters never taught me. Wherever you were, you knew it was going to be a good time! I always looked forward to when Eddie & I used to babysit for you, we played "Come & Get Your Love" over & over! And you, Loura & I would dance to it (& other great Motown hits)That song always reminds me of you! I have so many fun memories of our times together! The parties you or one of your siblings had, BBQ´s, football get togethers when the Vikings played (SKOL VIKINGS!!) & when I used to live below you, when you were my supervisor (twice!), exercising on our lunch breaks, the trip to South Dakota w all your girls, going out to see "Soul Tight", & the "Average White Boys" @ the Caboose..... there was always dancing and laughter! And FUN!
You were always true to yourself & didn´t try to be anyone but you! You were real & down to earth! You didn´t judge others! Your heart was always one of compassion & you were always there for others. Thank you for being there for me! You´re a great cook! I´ll never forget the sausages you would cook up at work! And you taught me how to make Spanish Rice from scratch! You´ve been a wonderful sister (in law) & always treated me like family even after Eddie & I divorced! I have always appreciated your acceptance & kindness over the decades!
To say you´ll be missed is an understatement! Heaven is a beautiful place & knowing you...you will never stop dancing! As long as I am here on earth....I´m gonna keep dancing & imagine you there with me! I love you, and am sad to say goodbye. C´ya when I get there. There´s already wonderful family members there to greet you!
PS: In case you haven´t heard, there´s a "WOODSTOCK" in heaven!
