Louis Cochi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 3 to Apr. 4, 2007.
Cochi, Louis ALBANY Louis "Gino" Cochi, 73, of Albany, entered into the glory of heaven on Monday, April 2, 2007, at the home of his daughter while surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Cochi was born November 19, 1933 in Sezze, Italy, the son of the late Joseph and Louisa Cochi. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 in 1954. He worked several years as an apprentice bricklayer, then became a bricklayer and worked for the Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers Local 2. He was a mason for 25 years, then worked at St. Peter's Hospital before retiring in 1996. Louis was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed his beautiful garden. Everyone who knew him reaped the rewards of his endeavors. His garden and tomatoes especially were famous among his neighbors, friends and family. He loved his home as he built it with his beloved father, brothers-in-law and friends. He also loved his camp on the great Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondacks. He came as an immigrant to America with nothing but the suitcase in his hands. He was born in Italy but his heart was American. America was his country and he was very proud when he became an American Citizen. He told everyone he knew, especially the young, "You can be anything you want as this is a great country of opportunity for all." Louis' first love was his family. He was married to his wife Lucille Cacchione for 47 years before she passed on in 2001. He was the beloved father of Linda Carlino (Carlo) and Laura Leonardo; cherished grandfather of Lisa and Andrea Leonardo, and Francesca Carlino; and brother of Ascenza DeAngelis (Joseph). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his special friends, Steve Noble and Joyce McKinley. Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Wednesday morning at 8:15, and from there to St. Margaret Mary's Church, Homestead St., Albany at 9:00. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
