Lucia Rubio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 6, 2006.
Lucia L. Rubio Dec. 13, 1923 - Sept. 3, 2006 Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary Holy Rosary will be recited Wednesday, September 6th, at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for Lucia Lopez Rubio, age 82, of Bakersfield who passed away September 3, in Bakersfield. Mass of the Christian Burial will be said Thursday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. and interment will follow at Union Cemetery. Fr. Chummar will officiate the services. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mom was born December 13, 1923 in Loving, New Mexico to Crescencio and Catarina (Garcia) Lopez. She married Dad, Manuel Rubio March 31, 1949 in Chihuahua, Mexico and the family moved from El Paso to Bakersfield in 1957. She took great pride in raising her children, all eight of us. She taught us by her example to respect others and to love unconditionally. God not only blessed us with a wonderful mother, but also a loving grandmother and great grandmother. Our children called her "Grandma Lucy". She loved cooking for her family and her homemade tortillas were one of a kind. After we all left the nest she made time to raise cockatoos and parakeets. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Rubio; parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her sons, John of San Francisco, David and wife, Terry and Risto and wife, Gerry, all of Bakersfield; daughters, Olga Pinon and husband, Eddie, Maria Salazar and husband, Robert, Manuela Martinez and husband, Carlos, Eva Fraire and husband, Saul, and Grace Garza and husband, Alex, all of Bakersfield; 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Maggie Lopez and Benita Lopez; and many other loving family members. The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Hsu and the staff at Mercy Southwest for the tender and loving care they gave our mother.
