Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 23, 2006.
SELINSGROVE — Lynnette E. Sickle, 44, of 95 Peach Tree Road, went home to be with her Lord at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at her home, surrounded by her family. Her passing follows a four-year battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 21, 1961, in Harrisburg, a daughter of Loren E. and Frona M. (Walter) Sweigard of Lewisburg. On June 11, 1983, she married Martin E. Sickle, who survives.

Lynnette was a 1979 graduate of Shikellamy High School. She received her bachelor's degree from Millersville University in 1983 and later earned her master's from Bucknell University.

Mrs. Sickle taught in the Shikellamy School District for 23 years, 16 of them at the high school as a learning support teacher and for the last eight years as a teacher at the Sunbury Middle School. She also served as the homecoming coordinator for 18 years at Shikellamy High School.

She was a member of Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, Sunbury, where she was active in both the choir and the children's choir. She also served in the nursery and on the Ladies Ministry Team, as well as helping at vacation Bible school.

Mrs. Sickle was also a member of the National Education Association and Kappa Delta Pi.

She was active in Relay for Life and volunteered with the American Cancer Society.

Lynnette enjoyed gardening, boating, walking and shopping, as well as reading. Her life can be characterized as serving God and being a loving mother and dedicated teacher.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and parents, are one daughter, Courtney E. Sickle, and two sons, David J. and Andrew M. Sickle, all at home; one sister and brother-in-law, Brenda K. and Barry Hoffman of Mount Pleasant Mills; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wendell E. and Crystal Sweigard of Milton and Duane N. and Jennifer Sweigard of Northumberland; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, David and Judith Sickle of Sunbury; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Janie Reinard and Susan and Steven Knoebel, all of Sunbury, and Lori and Kim Reichenbach of Winfield; 14 nieces and nephews; and one great-niece.

Visitors may call from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, 1051 Catawissa Ave., Sunbury, where the funeral will follow at 11 with the Rev. Charles E. Cole and the Rev. Dennis Lawrence officiating.

Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.

Contributions in Lynnette's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.

Dear Marty, Courtney, David, and Andrew,

No words can express the deep hurt I feel at the loss of my precious baby sister. The sister bond is such a special thing, and I thank you for the privilege of allowing me to help care for her. She made us laugh and she made us cry, and she was the best patient ever, never complaining. We tried hard to keep her here, but God had a different plan. I look forward to the day when I'll be with her in heaven. We will always be your family, and are here for you. Love, Aunt Brenda

It has been sumtime since i had last saw Mrs. Sickle she was my best reading teacher ever when the news of her passing got to me it hit me like nothing ever has i just couldnt believe a lady like her gone. She did so much for her Family and Friends and her students we all loved Mrs. Sickle and even though she is gone she will live in many of our hearts she always seemed to make you smile no matter what the mood was and she showed us what reading could do for us and it was just something just to sit in class and listen to her you just couldnt stop. she had so much to say and it was like you wanted to hear everything she had to say. To a great teacher who tried to help me alot. I wish that I had been able to thank you properly for all that you did for me, but now it is to late. You were a kind woman always ready to help, and were there as a shoulder for me to cry on when I needed a friend. I will miss you greatly, I am sorry that you have left behind so many so soon. But I know that you are in a better place. Goodbye, and Thank you again. "Forever Missing You Until We Meet Again."

To Linnette's family: We are so sorry to hear of your loss. We knew Linnette's parents and remember her as a little child. We haven't seen her since then but had heard about her illness and have been praying for her and all of you. There have been many times in the past months that I would think of her and just stop what I was doing and say a prayer for her. Our thoughts and prayers have been with you and still are. Take courage knowing you will be with her some day. You are not alone in this. We have a close friend who just lost his young wife about the same age as Linnette a few months ago. We ask why but God will explain it all to us some day. I'm sure he will.

Dear Mrs. Sickle,

you were a great teacher, you taught me so much and for that i will forever thank you, you were a great inspiration you taught thousands of kids about reading and you really did make a difference, i will remember you as one of my all time favorite teachers because you were so great and you were always making the classroom brighter with your smile, i feel honored to have had you as my teacher and i want to thank you again and let you know

that youre in my prayers and i will miss you very greatly and i dont understand why this happens to the good people because you werent just teaching for a job you taught because it was a passion and i think many others recognized that too.

Mrs.Sickle was one of the best teachers I could ever ask for. Reading wasn't always my best subject, but she was always there to help make it easier. I'll never forget the memories I made in her class nor the smile she always had on her face. She'll always be in my thoughts and prayers.

John and I want to send our heart felt sympathy to you and your family.

I think of all the times we spent playing volley ball, swimming and just had great christian fellowship with you and Lynnette. Our hearts are so heavy for you and the children and your whole family. She was taken at such a young age. Sometimes we question why some and not others. Only those questions can be answered when we meet our dear Lord someday.

Lynnette will be greatly missed by everyone she came in contact with.

We wish we could be there for you as friends do for each other at this most difficult time.

We will keep you in prayer that the Lord will give you comfort and strength at this time and wonderful memories of Lynnette in the coming years.
