Madeline Grimner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 23, 2024.
Madeline Elizabeth Grimner (nee Hastings), affectionately known as Lynn, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024 at the age of 89 in Philadelphia, PA

Born March 30, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA. Lynn was the beloved daughter of Mildred Moffit-Hastings and Silas Hastings. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Thomas F. Grimner. Lynn is survived by her children: Thomas F. Grimner Jr. (Julie Kohl), Karen Grimner-Piomelli (Bill MacKay), Linda Grimner-Davis-Flinn (Richard Flinn), and Mark Grimner (Mary Beth Grimner). She was a cherished grandmother to eight and a great-grandmother to four.

After graduating from Little Flower High School, Lynn worked for the Navy until her marriage to Tom Grimner on April 19, 1958. Once her children were of school age, Lynn returned to the work force as a legal assistant at a law firm, then she was a manager at the Lutheran Home. She later discovered her passion for fashion while working for Nordstrom as a Personal Shopper.

Inspired by her creativity and desire to support women in the workforce, she started her own business called "Ideal Images" teaching women about fashion and color coordination.

Lynn had a special love for flowers and all things beautiful. She was an avid home Jeopardy contestant and always knew most of the answers. She deeply loved and cared for her family and had a unique bond with each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had just received the good news that another great grandchild is on the way. She loved talking to her children and getting all the family updates and achievements. Lynn also had a loving companion: her dog Beau.

Madeline Elizabeth Grimner will be remembered with love and fondnessby all whose lives she touched.

Where do I begin?
I am blessed to have known my Aunt Lynn
Holidays and parties were times we shared,
Updates on our lives, she always cared

I most remember her keen sense of style,
And a compliment from her would always make me smile

The past few years I remember best,
She was there for me when my Mom laid to rest

Once she got on Facebook, she felt closer to me,
Keeping up with everyone in our family.
I will miss being able to give her a call,
But I'm sure she's in Heaven now, having a ball!

Rest in peace Aunt Lynn

Madeline and I met in primary school and were the best of friends for 80 years. Too many stories to tell about our teen years at Little Flower! Madeline was my maid-of-honor. She was a wonderful friend who could laugh at herself and I loved that about her. She always insisted that her IQ was higher than mine and that she was a year younger than me! We had such fun.

This photo is the two of us at our last high school prom. I will miss my friend always.

My beautiful Godmother, Aunt Lynn and I shared a special bond throughout my life. I was so in awe of her class, style, and grace. She taught me to embrace my femininity, and shared my passion for fashion. Her wisdom and sound advice was always welcomed, as I looked up to her as a role model, and appreciated her intelligence. Aunt Lynn was sweet and sassy, and I will miss our fun phone conversations and our quality time one-on-one visits. She was so loved and admired, and will be intensely missed.

Madeline was a dear friend of my mother. They were friends since the first grade. I always loved when she called my mother and I answered the phone. We had great conversations discussing jewelry and fashion. I also fondly remember going to visit the family in OCNJ and eating sandwiches on the beach that Madeline made. Every sandwich was labeled and delicious. I also loved how much Tom adored Madeline. Her laughter and sense of humor brought great joy to so many.
Sending love and my condolences to the entire family.

I remember my first memory of Aunt Lynn, when I was about 5 or 6. My family and siblings were going to spend an afternoon together at Uncle Tom´s and Aunt Lynn´s. I was very excited to play with my cousins and remembered how beautiful, kind and attentive my Aunt Lynn was. She made me feel special and important. I felt so loved and lucky to be a part of this happiness.
