Malcolm Miles Nelson CHARLESTON - Mr. Malcolm Miles Nelson was born on June 17, 1961 in Charleston, South Carolina to the Late Mr. James B. Nelson Sr. and Mrs. Ernestine K. Nelson-Gerideau. He departed this life on Saturday, April 8th, 2017. He attended Charleston County Public Schools where he was a member of the Marching 101 Burke High School Band. He began his participation in the Marching 101 as its first "Little Drum Major". He later played in the Trombone Section. He was also a member of the Gymnastic Team. He was employed with Universal Protection Services. He also worked as a security guard at the Charleston County Court House, The Dart-Hall Charleston County Library, AT&T and Dorchester's Grocery Store. He was married to the late Mrs. Marlene Tisdale-Nelson. Services celebrating the life of Mr. Nelson will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11:00 am in Morris Brown A.M.E. Church, 13 Morris Street, Charleston, SC 29406. Viewing will be held at 9:30 am until time of service. Mr. Nelson will be laid to rest in Monrovia Cemetery, Charleston, SC. His memories will be cherished by his children: Celena Vianas and Shantel. He will also be missed but never forgotten by his siblings, Mr. Charles Edward Gailliard (Fredericka), Mr. James B. Nelson (Barbara), Mr. Eric B. Nelson (Tammera) and Ms. Annette K. Nelson; Aunt Shirley K. Mullen-Nelson; grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family donation be made to Morris Brown A.M.E. Church Victory Fund.Anna Mae "Lovie" Hales Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.palmettomortuary.com. When I got the call about our "L'il Mackey" it put a tear in my eye. I can see Malcolm proudly stepping in Burke's Marching Band as the First Little Drum Major. That will forever be his legacy in our beloved Charleston. You see Malcolm was a " Man Boy" during that era. Therefore, DRUM MAJOR, TAKE YOUR FINAL BOW! All the best to the family.
