Manuel Anchondo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2015.
Manuel Anchondo, 59, was a lifelong resident of El Paso, Texas. Our beloved Manny had an infectious smile and he extended his goodwill to all he knew.
Manny was born May 11, 1956, on his mother's birthday. From an early age, Manny assumed a parental role for his siblings. His sound guidance and close relationship with each of his siblings created a home filled with respect, love and "animo". Manny mentored by example and encouraging words. He was always the voice of reason.
Manny graduated from El Paso High School with the Bicentennial class of 1976. He was a member of the track team, 1973-75, and the cross country team, 1974-75. In 1975, Manny received District, Regional and All-State honors in cross country. He also earned District Champion in track. As a result of his achievements, Manny was offered scholarships from The University of Texas at Austin, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech and Baylor University.
Manny and Josie, his wife of 31 years, began their beautiful life together as high school sweethearts. After a loving ten year courtship, they married on July 7, 1984. Manny and Josie shared a tender love and affection for each other. Manny expressed his love for Josie daily. Saturday morning walks with Fifi and Jock† followed by breakfast at California Café, with his mother at his side, were his tradition and his joy. Manny and Josie enjoyed traveling in and out of the U.S. A testament to their marriage was the renewal of their wedding vows in Jerusalem for their 25th wedding anniversary. They shared their love with everyone. Their hearts and their doors were open to all. Family gatherings, holidays and posadas were celebrated in their home. The annual pilgrimages at Mount Cristo Rey on Good Friday and in celebration of Mount Cristo Rey will be continued in his memory….followed by breakfast at La Malinche.

The depth of Manny's love and adoration for his mother was profound. His welfare visits each morning before work and every evening after work were constant. His hands-on care with his mother's healthcare, meals and home repair is just a glimpse of his spirit.
Manny's generosity extended well beyond his family and friends. For 26 years, he raised donations for the support of underprivileged children attending the Houchen Community Center in El Paso's second ward. Manny also coordinated food drives during the Thanksgiving holidays and throughout the year. The Houchen Community Center staff entrusted Manny with the "carpeted" facilities, where the Barrio Dawgs were born. As the years passed, the basketball group matured gracefully into the Houchen Rukos.

Manny's professional career began at the El Paso County's Clerks Office in 1976, while he was still in high school. Manny was quickly held in high regard by his coworkers and the general public. His eagerness to learn and serve others were his motivation. In 1991, Manny began his employment with the Office of the Attorney General. His genuine interest in protecting the best interest of children was his achievement and his success.
On September 25, 2000, Manny joined the US Federal Court House as an Intake Clerk. He welcomed court officials, representatives, law enforcement agencies and others whole heartedly. Manny's enthusiasm and disposition are his legacy.
Manny's passion for learning was steadfast. In 2002, he received an Associate's Degree from El Paso Community College. He continued his education by attending countless courses in the area of psychology and child development.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Luis Anchondo, and maternal grandmother, Nieves Adame. Survivors include his wife, Josie Anchondo and his parents Ricardo & Amparo Anchondo. Siblings include Luz Anchondo of El Paso, TX, Margarita Anchondo (Jorge Romo) of Los Angeles, CA; Ricardo Anchondo Jr. (Olga) of El Paso, TX; Connie Newman (Robert) of Albuquerque, NM; Patricia Garcia (Ray Zambrano) of El Paso, TX; Esteban Anchondo (Belinda) of El Paso, TX; and Lourdes Anchondo of Phoenix, AZ. Manny nurtured a personal relationship with countless nephews, nieces and Godchildren. He gave of his time and of himself selflessly. He taught us what mattered, family, tradition, relationships, priorities and then some. He was our cheerleader and he was Our Rock. We know you are at heaven's gates and we know you will greet us and welcome us with your smile…all in due time.

In lieu of flowers, our family is asking for donations to support The Manuel Anchondo Food Drive which benefits The El Paso Feeding the Hungry organization.

He always encouraged me to keep going forward with my father's estate in district court even though the odds to recover it are minimal, he always had faith that I would prevail. He went beyond in helping me by filing the pleadings and made sure that everything was done correctly. As though this was his case and just wanted me to be able to recover my father's estate. He will be sorely missed, it is few people like him are found in this world, and I am happy that I met him during my most confusing and darkest hour. Thank you Manny for being such a beautiful angel.

The Little Ship

I stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea. The setting sun tinted his white sails with a golden light, and as he disappeared from sight a voice at my side whispered, "He is gone." But the sea was a narrow one. On the farther shore a little band of friends had gathered to watch and wait in happy expectation. Suddenly, they caught sight of the tiny sail and, at that very moment when my companion had whispered, "He Is gone" a glad shout went up in joyous welcome, "Here he comes!"

Manny touched many lives in a very positive way. His warm heart, spirit and smile, will never cease to be.

To the best uncle anyone could ask for, you were always there for us and I will miss you so much. Your smile would light up a room the minute you walked in. I will always remember the conversations we would have, our breakfast to California Cafe on Saturday mornings when we would visit, our family getting together at El Rincon De Cortez, and most of all our family gathering. You will always be with me and I will never forget you.

This poem describes my relationship with my Brother.

My Hero

You held my hand
When I was small
You caught me when I fell
You're the hero of my childhood
And my later years as well

And every time I think of you
My heart still fills with pride
Though I'll always miss you Manny
I know you're by my side

In laughter and in sorrow
In sunshine and through rain
I know you're watching over me
Until we meet again
-author unknown

You will always be a part of me Manny.

Josie, Mr. & Mrs. Anchondo, & Anchondo Family,
It's been said 'you don't know what you have until it's gone'. When it comes to Manny, we know exactly what we had...a loving, caring, faithful, honest, sincere, & genuine friend. His smile was contagious. His willingness to help & serve others was remarkable.

Our thoughts of Manny now are bittersweet...so very sad not to see his smiling face on earth, but so grateful to God for blessing us with the honor & privilege of knowing such an exemplary man. We can just picture Manny now, standing before God, & hearing those words we all hope to hear some day: Well done, good & faithful servant.

Our most heartfelt condolences to Josie, the Anchondo family & all who knew & loved him. May God give you peace, strength & comfort during this very difficult time, & in the days to come.
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4

Manny in this little time that we knew you. You were such a nice, respectful, all smiles, very outgoing person with a great personality. We still can't believe you're gone. I remember my brother Ruben would always invite you and your brother Richie to my moms for the boxing matches. You would never say No. This last week was another boxing match. My brother Ruben was about to call Rey to invite you and Richie. He knew how much you guys loved boxing but unfortunately he gave us some bad news that day. We couldn't believe you were gone. Heartfelt condolences with deepest sympathy, to Manny Anchondo's family.

Thinking of you and wishing you moments of Peace and Comfort.
I am keeping the Anchondo family in my prayers. Manny was the
most generous, kind and lovely person. Our prayers and blessing
to the Anchondo family.

God looked around his lovely garden and found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering; He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your wary eyelids and whispered, 'Peace be Thine'.
It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you the day God called you home.

There aren't enough words to describe Manny. Growing up with the anchondo's has been a blessing. Being around Manny made me want to become a better person. He had a sparkle in his eyes, the best warm smile. Always asking about how you were doing and how the family
was doing.Such a gentleman. Absolutely loved his family, unconditionally. Gave the best hugs. Gave the best advice. Always blessed you when he said goodbye. Had such a great sense of humor. Loved all the kiddos as well as asked how was my "baby" doing. Always invited us to gatherings, even though they were not at his house. Such a pure soul. He is going to be missed but never forgotten. Love you Manny....

I miss you already but i am so glad i got to share some special memories with you. those will never be forgotten. love you tio, as you always did to us. keep smiling in heaven and one day we will meet again.
