Marc Kevin Ensign

Marc Kevin Ensign moved forward from this world on Sunday, September 17th, cradled by his loving wife, children, and siblings. Marc was born on October 26th, 1960 at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He entered the world with some surprise and fanfare when the doctor exclaimed after delivering his identical twin brother Eric, "Wait...there's another heartbeat!"

Marc was an intelligent and charming child. He was mischievous, but in the most fun and adorable ways. Marc probably got away with this because anything "less adorable" could easily be blamed on his twin. Truly, Marc was a golden child. He excelled in academics, had a gifted artistic side, and just drew people to him in a way that few people can.

Marc attended elementary school in Michigan, and then junior high and high school in Clinton, Mississippi. After graduation, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Scotland and Ireland. The love he found there for the British Isles, especially the Scotch countryside, only grew throughout his life. He loved his Scottish heritage and was a Scotsman in his soul.

Marc met the lovely Heidi Halliday while attending BYU in Provo, Utah. They married in 1983 in the Jordan River Temple, starting their family soon after. They eventually added seven children to their home, and these children were the center of Marc's existence. Marc was a loving and adventurous father who took his children on countless outdoor and boating trips, dune buggy rides, and motorcycle excursions. He taught his children to travel and explore the world, appreciating delicious food along the way.

Marc was a natural businessman. He and Heidi moved to Rawlins, Wyoming where Marc got his start in the automotive business. From there, they returned to Highland, Utah where Marc became a partner of Christensen Chevrolet. Success just came to Marc. He was a hard worker and had a mind that intuitively turned anything into a thriving venture. As he always said, "Stay in the game, and things will happen." Eventually Marc and Heidi moved their family to Cache Valley, where Marc owned and operated Ensign Imports. Marc designed and built the country home of his dreams in the Paradise Valley, which he loved. He drew peace from the beauty of the fields and hills and loved to sit on his front porch during the evenings.

Marc was a natural leader. Consequently, people turned to him over and over for input and guidance. He was generous in sharing his gifts with others. He was very active in his community, serving on the board of Utah Festival Opera, operating Jack's Wood-Fired Oven, and engaging in countless other ventures. He loved serving as an LDS bishop in a USU Young Single Adult ward because he loved serving "the one." He taught, led, and counseled his young ward members. That service also extended to all those around him. Marc had an immeasurable capacity to bless the lives of those he came in contact with. He was a seeker of truth and an avid writer, and impacted many by the thoughts that he shared.

Marc is survived by his wife, Heidi, and children Kayley (James), Ryan, Ashley (Chris), Devyn (Ashley), Jordyn, Shelby, Jacey (Brody), and 11 grandchildren with 3 more on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bruce Willis Ensign and Betz Gentry Ensign, and his father-in-law, Joseph Ronald Halliday.

Marc was the epitome of someone whose life touched ours for good. His presence will be sorely missed, but his faith in Jesus Christ will live on in those who knew and loved him. He will continue to affect all of our lives as we remember his love and example. We wish to recognize the incredible medical staff at McKay Dee Hospital who cared so well for Marc. We are grateful to the organ donation team, who allowed Marc to give one last series of gifts to recipients in need.

"And I hope by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home." Until we meet again, dear Marc.

A viewing will be held Friday, September 22 from 6-8 pm at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center Street in Logan, Utah. Saturday, September 23 there will be a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am, Paradise North LDS Chapel, 9060 S 200 W, Paradise, Utah.
