Marcia Edwards Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 12 to Nov. 19, 2023.
Camarillo - Marcia Bittick Edwards of Camarillo died peacefully at home on August 27, 2023, after a period of declining health. Marcia was born in Bakersfield, California, on September 18, 1939, and raised in McFarland, California, where her father was head of maintenance for the school system. Her involvement in high school included yell leader and drama. She attended Bakersfield College, graduated from San Jose State with a degree in education, eventually following her cousin Jane in becoming a teacher at Somis School until her retirement. Gardening was a favorite past time, as evidenced by her home's extensive landscaping, and for many years she was a member of the Pleasant Valley Garden Club and a volunteer at the Camarillo Ranch House, involved with designing and maintaining the lovely gardens. Marcia and her husband John A. Edwards (Jae), a Navy Seabee veteran with NMCB 5 in Vietnam, enjoyed a whirlwind marriage, living in many places from Pennsylvania to Alaska because of his employment with Ingersoll Rand, and eventually settling in Camarillo, where Jae continued working in the oil industry in Ventura County for a number of years before his passing in 2020. Marcia came from a family with roots in Missouri and Kern County, including farming, the railroad industry, construction, and other enterprises.

Marcia is survived by nieces Shelly Castaneda and Kelly Bittick of Bakersfield; cousins Jane McIlhaney (David) of Thousand Oaks, Christie Harrington of Ventura, Jason McIlhaney (Marilyn) of Camarillo, and Katie McIlhaney of San Luis Obispo. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Amelia Bittick of McFarland and Bakersfield, and brother Fred Bittick of Camarillo and Bakersfield.

The family would like to thank Mariabeth Deocampo for the loving compassionate care she provided to Marcia (and the family) during the last months of Marcia's life.
