RAMSAY, Margaret Jean
October 6, 1940 - January 18, 2018
Margaret Jean Copithorne Ramsay passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the age of 77. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Melissa Ramsay, Gillian (Martin Baur) Ramsay; grandchildren Jacob and Jenna Wilton, Sophia and Luke Baur; siblings Sheila (Ted) Burger, Marshall (Teresa) Copithorne as well as several nieces and nephews. Margie will be remembered as a woman of courage, incredible strength, determination, grace, and love. Growing up in Jumping Pound, Alberta, Margie rode to school, played in the fields, and enjoyed exploring her world. Months before the Salk vaccine came out, she contracted polio. Told that she would likely never sit up, she sat up, told that she would not walk, she walked with crutches. Being deprived the full use of her body, she decided to excel in the use of her mind. She went on to complete a BA at Stanford and then law school at the University of Toronto where she met the love of her life, John (predeceased her in 2015). They returned to Calgary to start their law practices and raise their family. Margie worked during the day as a lawyer and spent her evenings chauffeuring children to various activities, making sure that they had the most well rounded start in life possible. She also took time to be involved in her church, and post-retirement to attend courses at the university. Her greatest gift to her children and grandchildren was the demonstration of unconditional love. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Unicef in her memory. The funeral service will be held at Christ Church Calgary, 3602-8 Street S.W., on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 2 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.edenbrookcemetery.ca.
