Margaret Elsie Rothschild, 87, passed away peacefully at the Victoria Care Center on June 22, 2007.
Margaret was born July 18, 1919, in Santa Paula to Richard and Margaret Rees. She grew up in Santa Paula and graduated in the Santa Paula High School Class of 1938. Margaret married her high school sweetheart, Robert Devericks in 1939. They parted several years later. In 1956 Margaret married Bruce Rothschild, who preceded her in death in 1997. During the years of their marriage, they resided in Oxnard, Ojai and Palm Desert and traveled to Japan and Hawaii.
Margaret's kindness, gentleness and patience will be missed by son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Ellen Devericks of Somis; stepson and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jean Rothschild of Victorville; grandchildren, Mike (wife Alicia) Devericks, Rob (wife Annie) Devericks, Kristen (husband Mike) Fowler, Steve (wife Lesley) Devericks and Patrick Devericks; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Jake, Josh, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Paul and Matthew.
Margaret was blessed with many artistic talents. Her favorite was painting in both oil and watercolors. Many of her art works are proudly displayed in family members' homes. She also enjoyed China painting, sewing and craft projects.
With an exception of six years in Palm Desert, she was a lifelong resident of Ventura County. Mom served as president of California Federation of Women's Clubs on local and state levels. She later became a member of Ojai and Palm Desert PEO Sisterhood.
The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Victoria Care Center and Drs. Richard Tushla and David Stegman for the 10 years of care and concern for Margaret.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 3 at Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Road, off Santa Paula Street.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Margaret with a memorial contribution to your favorite charity or to the Ventura County Historical Museum, 100 E. Main St., Ventura, CA 93001.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.
