Our Mother was born in Coleman Texas, and she was the youngest daughter of Henrietta and Juan Cardenas in 1925.
Her parents were both from Mexico, and met in The United States and Married and started a family in Coleman Texas with, Pedro, Juan, Estifana, Maria, Kile, Jerry, Val, and the youngest Jesse. In those days as with most families, the whole family went to work. As my Uncle Jess said "if you didn't work you didn't have groceries on the table" and The Cardenas Family were no exception. One story my Mother told us was when she turned 5 years old, my Grandmother told her it was time for her to help out at the next cotton season. Our Grandmother made a "cotton sack" just for her and that was a happy day for her! She said she could still remember how proud she was that she could go to work with all her older brothers and sisters. This was also were she learned to love "coffee" Our mother told us that each work morning everyone had a cup of coffee and she wanted a cup too! Being too young, our Grandmother wouldn't let her have a cup, but our Grandfather Juan would let her sip from his cup! She loved a good cup of black coffee ever since and anybody coming to her home always had a hot cup of coffee from her kitchen! My Uncle Jesse also told us she had another job, taking care of him! So in between working she often stayed behind to watch over her little brother who she loved very much and regaled us with many amusing stories about her little brother! The Cardenas Family worked by the seasons and that meant traveling from Texas, to Nebraska, Wyoming, to name a few and traveled back around home again to Texas. They also went to school in between seasons and our Mother use to say that "Life was her school"

My Uncles were all in the United States Army and served in WW2 and returned back to Texas. My Uncle Jesse told us that our Uncle John went to California first and saw many opportunities there and wrote to the family to come out. My Uncles Jerry and Val and our Mother came out first and my Grandparents, and my Uncle Jesse and cousin Lupe came next, with most of the family following. They settled in Ontario, California and despite that she ended up living in California for well over 60 years, Margaret always said she was a "Texas Gal" and she never forgot her love for her Westerns and the Pecan Trees and that she was from a little town called "Coleman"

Our Mother met "Alfred Vindiola" who also came back from serving in WW2 in the Armed Forces. The story our Mother tells is that herself and her brother Jerry were on their way to work when their car had a flat tire and had to park by the side of road. A friend of Uncle Jerry happen to drive by and it was a young man whose name was Alfred but they called him "Tan", he offered to help and this is how our parents met! Alfred Vindiola and Margaret Cardenas fell in love and married in 1948. They soon had a family with Henry, Rudy, Ruby, Pearl, Maria and Joseph. With the opportunities that opened up after the War, our Dad was able to buy home in Ontario for his family and both of our parents worked hard( Dad working in L.A and Mom raising us at home) to give their children what they didn't have. Our Mother cooked awesome food and she made fresh hot flour tortillas everyday. Neighbors could smell the fresh hot aroma of them cooking and if they knocked on the door she would call you in and let you have one and there always seemed to be some butter on the table if you wanted some on your tortilla! Her Tamales were loved by all and she always said the main ingredient was "LOVE" In this home we learned a lot about our family history on both sides and we enjoyed a good life with our Parents who did their best and taught us the value of hard work and to Love one another and to Honor God and Love our Country.

We were all Blessed to have our beloved Mother Margaret, Mother-In-Law, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Sister for 87 years and still it wasn't long enough. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten! We all carry our own beautiful memories to keep us all smiling and to comfort us when we miss her. Her children were her Life and her grandchildren her Joy.

Thank You Lord for giving us Margaret Cardenas Vindiola as long as you did. Rest in Peace Mom, we will all meet again ~ Lovingly, Always, Your Children, Henry, Rudy, Ruby, Pearl, Maria and Joey ~

I will miss my grandma very much. When I was a little girl my grandma and I would watch Jerry Lewis & Elvis movies. I think we saw just about every one they ever made. We would laugh and eat grandpa's secret stash of candy bars ! I also remember her cooking ! Oh how I loved her cooking ! I will miss my grandma very much, she was such a wonderful grandmother. I am great full for every moment I got to spend with her. Love you grandma xoxo

To the Vindiola Children I send all my Love. This past week I have thought of our old neighborhood so many times. I cannot remember a time in my life that I do not remember Margie & Freddie. You are all like sisters & brothers to me. I really love the pictures you have posted here of your parents. I remember that one of your Mom when she was younger & I always remarked to myself she was such a Beautiful lady. I remember praying the Rosary with Margie many years ago. Jim & I will not be able to come down for the services but please know you are in our thoughts. May God comfort you all in this sad time. Love Debbie

Our last Christmas together

Like my sisters, my favorite times with my mom where at Christmas and Thanksgiving not only for how pretty the house looked but all the wonderful smells of the holidays because my mom could cook! I am very thankful to God for the opportunity to have had my mother stay with me and my family for her last three years on this earth. My mom was a blessing and surprised us all with her quick wit and humor. She will be missed dearly and every time I see a western it will remind me of her. May God bless you and keep you forever!
Love You Mama! Maria

I remember family gatherings that we would have at my grandma's apartment and how happy she would be to see her family together. We would often order Vince's Spaghetti and sit and talk with her and she would have her westerns playing on the TV. She would also give the best neck massages if you sat on the floor in front of her rocking chair. She would always ask me about school and how I was doing and would give the biggest hugs.

Over these last few years she was living with my parents I got to watch a lot of westerns with her and got to know some of her favorite cowboys. She loved watching those westerns. I also remember the first christmas she spent with us and how excited she was to open her presents from all of us. she lit up and laughed and loved all of her gifts and of course she loved the christmas cookies. I have many more memories of my grandma and I will always cherish them and miss her. I know she's with my grandpa and her parents looking down on all of her family that she loved so much. Love you grandma.

One of my favorite memories were of Christmas. I Loved how my Mother decorated our home for the holiday. She would actually make her own Christmas wreaths from her own garden, with Holly Berries and Spruce Sprays from her Spruce bushes. The scent was amazing and you knew it was "Christmas" then she got all the candles and placed them on the tables with the Holly and Spruce sprays and her arrangements were always Beautiful! She had a wonderful knack for making Christmas magical! As a child this was the happiest time for me. As the time came closer there were trips to the market to pick out the Christmas Tree and all the decorations, tinsel, colored bulbs, and the string of lights and the crowning glory " The Star"!! She often would buy "Snow in the Can" and let us kids pick out one stencil of our choosing to spray the windows! It was always fun.

Then on Christmas Eve, Mama would start early in the morning cooking her famous "Pork Tamales" and the smells and the aromas were intoxicating. She would tell us children we better be good or Santa wont come! This is where my Father would be very helpful for my mother and as the tamales came hot from the steamer, my Mother would pack and wrap Tamales for the neighbors and my Father would deliver them and we would also receive gifts and candy from our neighbors! This was always fun!

Time came to Midnight, and Mama would let us open one gift and then off to bed. Only to wake 4 or 5 hours later! When we woke, there always were Stocking filled with tangerines, nuts and old fashion candies and toys. That was just the beginning , then came the beautifully wrapped presents and one year there were Bikes for myself and my two brother and my sister! That was one of my favorite Christmas's but really they were all Wonderful.

Thank You Mama for teaching me the True meaning of Love and Giving and for the Love you taught me about Family. I continued her love for Christmas with my own Family and Christmas is still my Favorite Holiday because of her ~ God Bless You Mama, I love you and I will always miss you, and you will always be in my heart, especially at "Christmas" Love You Always, Pearl (Me)

My Mother Margaret Vindiola was a Beautiful Woman inside and out! I have too many memories to write down, but I will say she Loved me in a way that was unique! Every Mother wants their eldest daughter to be more than they were and she was no exception! At that time I was too young and didn't understand what she was wanting for me. But older and wiser now I see just how much she Loved me! I now do the same thing with my Daughters, always wanting the best for them. God Bless You Mama, You are with Daddy and Your Parents, Brothers & Sisters and you have only gone ahead of us, and we will all meet again. With Love Always Your Daughter Ruby <3

My earliest memories of my Grandma were of her rocking me to sleep in her rocking chair while signing songs in Spanish and rubbing my head, It worked every time! She always sang so soft and peacefully! She taught my Mom to cook amazing food, who then taught me. She always hugged and kissed me and had a smile for me!
