Marian D'Augereaux Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 7, 2016.
Marian "Sissie" D'Augereaux lost her long battle with COPD and heart disease on June 6, 2016. She was 61 years old. Marian Bernice Smothers was born in Mesa, Arizona on November 27, 1954. She was the fourth child and first girl born to Edna Mae and William Lacy Smothers. One of her favorite stories to tell was that she was born in a taxicab, delivered by a doctor from a nearby psychiatric hospital, and was dubbed "The Tiny Ocotillo Tot" by the local newspaper. Such a unique start was definitely a sign that this was the start of an equally unique life. Marian got her nickname, Sissie, by being a sister to seven brothers and two sisters. Being the eldest sister, she was also the main caretaker of her younger siblings, a role she would cherish and maintain throughout her life as she started her own family. As her family frequently moved and money was hard to come by, Sissie learned how to be a survivor. And survive she did. Tough as nails, she gussied herself up at 14, lied about her age, and got a job as a waitress at Dot Coffee Shop to earn money. She also worked backstage at a local music venue, telling her favorite musical acts when it was time to take the stage. Her claim to fame was that she got to scold Three Dog Night for showing up late to a show, saying, "I'm sure they were thinking, 'Who the heck is this little twerp?'" That was the exact spunkiness and no-nonsense attitude that made everyone love her so much. Sissie married Michael Joseph D'Augereaux on June 17, 1974. They had two children, Jeramy Michael and Nicole Michelle. They bought a house in Pasadena, Texas, where they still reside. In 1987, she and Michael opened a business, a used car dealership, Bargain Autos. There, they made a living and raised their children at the same time. During this time, Sissie singlehandedly ran the household and handled customer service and bookkeeping. If it needed making, cooking, repairing, cleaning, doctoring, mowing, folding, managing, or scolding, she was there to make sure that it was done to the best of her ability. She sewed Halloween costumes, made holiday feasts, reupholstered car interiors, designed flower arrangements for weddings, and the list could go on and on. It seemed like she could catch anything that life threw at her, make it better, and throw it right back. She was everyone's rock, confidant, advocate, and therapist, the one everyone feared but loved fiercely, and she loved just as fiercely in return. She and Michael sold their business in 2007 after Michael suffered a head injury. During that time, she nursed him back to health, even as her health was starting to take a downward turn. She never hesitated to speak her mind on any issue, and was very passionate and firm in her convictions. She was a self-proclaimed Jesus enthusiast, and would spread her love of the gospel at any opportunity. She was always ready to lend an ear or helping hand, and her wit, sense of humor, and love of her country brightened the days of so many. Sissie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Edna Mae and William Lacy Smothers, younger brother, David Richard "Ricky" Smothers, and her older brother, Randall Arlen "Bo" Smothers. She is survived by her husband Michael, son Jeramy and wife Tocia and grandchildren Courtney, Daphney, and Joshua, daughter Nicole, brothers Wayne and wife Theresa Smothers and family, Donald "Donny" and wife Joy Smothers and family, James "Jimmy" and wife Mary Smothers and family, Billy and wife Holly Smothers, Bobby and wife Jan Smothers, sisters Judy and husband Danny Culwell and family, Ann and husband Matthew Fox and family, and sister-in-law and wife of Ricky, Jorene Smothers and family. She has innumerable nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins who will greatly miss her.

Dear Sissie,
Just got notification that your guestbook is going to close soon. I hope your family will make sure to print out all the adoring comments first.
Your bigger than life personality had a way of creating a gap in this world that will NEVER be filled. For me, you were an integral part of my rewarding facebook experience, and I can't be on there without half-expecting a comment or "like" from you. I guess I just wanted to take another opportunity to thank you for your authenticity and true devotion as a friend, and that I will not forget you, and that I still miss you and your warm spirit. I know you're in God's hands now, and that gives me peace. See you again, Dear Friend.

Aunt Sissie,

I'm sitting here crying my eyes out because I missed out on so many years. I'm 30 years old and haven't seen or talked to you in close to 20 years. I love you and your kids so much and I'm sorry you all never knew that. I feel you around and I know you're watching over me. I love you ♡

Sissie D'Augereaux meant so much to me
More than she ever knew
Even though I always said, I love you
I'm not sure she really had a clue

That I loved her like a sister
And I will think of her each day
I've really missed her in my life
Ever since we moved away

From the first time that I met her
Until the very sad, sad end
Sissie was a great friend to me
As if we were actually kin

Thank you to Sissie for her love
For my family, my sons and me
Our lives will never be the same
We're crushed in ways you just can't see...

I'm glad Sissie got on Facebook
It's been a few years back
Because I got to hear her point of view
As she kept us all on track.

She made me laugh so hard
With all the hysterical things she'd say
I looked forward to her Facebook posts
Almost every single day

The Lord smiled down from Heaven
Every time he saw her face
He felt her love for him inside her soul
God put his Angel in her place

Sissy will forever be missed, she was loved by everyone who had the honor of knowing her. We were friends years ago when i was married to Raymon "Butch" Porter RIP
9-8-53 --- 10-5-13 stage 4 lung cancer took him.
Wayne Smothers and Butch were friends and co workers at Masters Auto if memory serves me. The whole Smothers family is amazing.
I hadn't seen Sissy in years and found her on Facebook and enjoyed sharing things as we were alike politically and in our Love for JESUS and cooking.
Heaven has a beautiful angel.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of her family.
She touched my life and left an imprint that will never be forgotten. I miss you RIP Sissy.

Sissie, I never truly realized the significance of our friendship until you crossed over into a dimension where communication can no longer be on Facebook. Your amazing spirit and invincible values and character were only a part of why I loved you. You were the kind of friend most people only dream of having--never far away when you were needed and full of encouragement and inspiration always. We shared an awesome sameness in musical tastes and I am just at a complete loss of how to come to terms with your departure. I KNOW KNOW KNOW that if ANY of us has any chance of making it through the gates of Heaven, it's YOU, Girlfriend--I could write of my fondness for your spirit for days and never say enough. I miss you and looking at your "other" pictures only makes me know that you and I were more aligned than I ever knew. Sissie, I miss you!!! I'm praying that all the ones who are grieving now will find some peace in gratitude for having been blessed by you and the short time we had you here with us. Fly on, Our Angel...fly on...

The first time we saw Sissie she was riding with Husband-to -be Micheal on a tractor and I can't remember ever seeing one without the other. They worked, played and suffered together. Uncle Don and Aunt Marina.
