Marian E. Maynard (nee Hershey) passed away on January 3, 2011.

Born in Akron, Ohio on May 10, 1916, she was the third child born to Peter and Edith Hershey. Marian was a proud graduate of Kenmore High School and was the first female editor of the school's newspaper.

Marian married Norman Maynard in 1941 and together they raised three children in Manchester. They were founding members at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and School and were extremely active there and at St. Peter parish throughout their lives.

Marian was a voracious reader and a lover of crossword puzzles and Scrabble. A lifelong homemaker and mother, nothing made Marian happier than her family. We will cherish the wonderful gatherings she and Norman hosted over the years, the bridge parties, the dinners and the New Year's Eve parties at their home, and the joy they brought to the grandchildren with relay races, charades, the Hokey Pokey, polka and Norman's banjo strumming. Marian loved to sing the praises of her children, grandchildren, in-laws, strangers, the gas station attendant, librarian, you name it. She was pure of heart and truly served Christ as a role model for others in her life. Her genuine smile and loving spirit touched us all.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman; her sisters, Gwen and Joy; and her granddaughter, Rebecca; Marian is survived by her older brother, Melvin ``Bud' Hershey; sons, Philip (Tak), Peter (Susan); and daughter, Nancy (Gary); nephews, Dennis Marguerite, Mel, and Randy (Sue); and their families; granddaughters, Amy (T.K.), Emily (Matt), and Heidi (Guillermo); grandson, Simon (Denise); and great-grandchildren, Allie, Austin, Abby, Andrew, Julia, Luke, Isabella, Andres, Gabriel, Samantha, Thomas and Camilla. The family would like to thank the Special Care Floor staff at Rockynol and the Summa Hospice Group for their exceptional care of Marian.

Per Marian's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Norman H. Maynard Scholarship at Archbishop Hoban High School, One Holy Cross Blvd., Akron, OH 44306, the Bucyrus Public Library Fund, BACF Library Fund, Box 387, Bucyrus, OH 44820, or a charity of your choice. What a wonderful person to know and love.
The great times while growing up at St. Francis de Sales with her and your dad sharing the breakfasts after Midnight Mass with Fr. Garrity, the Maynard's,and the Neidert's, will always be in my memory. Your mom always had a smile and a pleasant word to say to everyone. We'll miss her.

Phil, it sounds like your mother was a wonderful lady and a true disciple of Christ. Please be comforted in knowing she has earned her eternal reward through her faith in Christ and I'm sure she's coordinating a couple of "card parties" in Heaven. God bless.

I have often thought of your Mom. I enjoyed visiting her at Rockynol with the kindergarteners from the Elms. I remember having dinner with your family and the after Midnight Mass breakfasts on Christmas and Easter. Your Mom was always such a kind, gentle lady.
