R.I.P Marianne
Aruna Antonella Handa
February 17, 2020
Someone so smart, generous, unassuming and vivacious--how could Marianne be gone? She indeed shone brightly, and as I look through my photographs of our previous edible insect events, the Future Food Salons, bug banquets and conference proceedings, it was often Marianne who lit up the scene. I send my deepest sympathies and courage to Professor Shockley's two children Paul and Nora, and to the rest of her family. It was a privilege to know you, Marianne.

Dr. Shockley,
You were an amazing person and a wonderful teacher! You made everyone so excited about bugs and biotechnology! CAES won't be the same without you, and I pray for your family at this time! Thanks for being the best advisor and professor anyone could have asked for!

Wow Ms.Shockley,
Was so passionate about life. My thoughts and prayers are with the individuals that she impacted by her light, and love of insects.

I never met Marianne personally, but she was the academic advisor for my two UGA sons. In their words she was invaluable and greatly enriched their experience in Athens. It is rare to find someone as remarkable as she was, both in her humility and her zest for life. God speed Marianne! May her family and friends find comfort in faith, hope, and love.
