Mario Joseph Federici, 96, of Reno, Nevada, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.

Mario is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen, his parents Quirino and Laurina, and his brother John.

Surviving are his sons Jim Federici and wife Maria; Tom Federici and wife Jan Louise; daughter Terry Cramer and husband John; 6 grandchildren, Scott and Brian Federici; Luke Federici and Katie Akerson (Shane); Meagan and Madison Cramer; great-granddaughter Emily Louise Akerson.

Mario was born in Prota (Tuscany), Italy on July 16, 1920 to Quirino and Laurina (Mori) Federici. When Mario was one month old, he and his mother journeyed to America to join his father in Camino (Apple Hill), California where Quirino had purchased land to build a home and plant an apple/pear orchard. They also built on their property and maintained for many years, a service station/convenience store. Mario graduated in accounting from the Armstrong College in Berkeley, CA in 1941, and enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he flew as a waist gunner on a B-17 based in England. He completed 25 missions by the end of WW-II, and he returned to the Bay Area to begin a career as an accountant working for the IRS in San Francisco. In 1947, Mario was transferred to Reno where he met and married Kathleen Landers. Mario retired at the age of 55 in 1975, and stayed active in the Knights of Columbus, the Parish Council, and general maintenance with his parish at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. Mario was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather/great grandfather who was most proud of his family. He was an avid reader and gardener, enjoyed wood working, and was very interested in sports, especially SF Giants baseball.

I have known Mario for some time. Members of the Knights of Columbus would hold weekly luncheons and Mario would be there. I recall his WW II flying on a B-17 as a side gunner. If the Reno airport would have the B-17, he would there. Mario enjoyed talking with the "boys" when we met. I will miss him.

We lived next door to Mario from 2007-2014 on Plumb Lane. I cannot begin to express what a kind and generous person he was. He was very dear to me and I am sad to hear of his passing. He missed Kathleen very much and I know he is happy to be with her again. My condolences and prayers are with the family.

What an amazing man. Every time I drive down Plumb Lane I think of your parents. Bet they are having a Church Social with my Mom right now.
