Marjorie Giessinger, age 86, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2011. Margie was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on April 7, 1925, and she had three sisters. She was educated in the public schools in St. Paul, and worked in a plant that produced war supplies. As a young lady she soon met her husband, Willie Giessinger, who drove a "Street Car" in Minneapolis. Margie and Willie were married on August 27, 1947, and they soon moved to Milbank where they raised their family. Willie and Margie had five children. Their first child is Diana Rae Waldrop who lives with her husband Bill in Marietta, Georgia. Their second child, Jack Giessinger, lives in Hayden, Colorado. Their third child is William Giessinger who lives with his wife Mary Ann in Watertown, South Dakota. Their fourth child is Pam Ward who resides in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Their fifth child is Barb Gribble who resides with her husband Kevin in Watertown, South Dakota. Margie simply adored her 7 grandchildren, and her 16 great grandchildren. She was particularly thankful to her daughter, Pam, and to her granddaughter, Jamie VanHorn, who helped care for her during her last year of life. When Margie and Willie were raising their family in Milbank, Margie kept the books, paid the taxes, and very accurately maintained the ledgers for Willie's Westside Motors on Highway 12. Margie also kept the books and tax records for Willie's brother, Ronnie Giessinger, who operated "Ol Gunslinger's Bar" in Twin Brooks. Margie was an avid "bowler," and she was a member of a league here in Milbank for over 40 years. Margie won many bowling awards, and traveled throughout the surrounding states competing in tournaments with fellow bowlers from Milbank. Margie also enjoyed going to the VFW and American Legion Posts where she would play Bingo with her friends, and she was a lifetime member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. Over the last 10 years Margie became fascinated with growing daylilies. She had multiple, beautiful blooms in her daylily garden, and friends in town would come by Margie's home to see her flowers. She had daylilies of every color and description, and even kept a daily journal of the number of daylily blooms that she would have bloom on a particular day. Margie made Milbank a more beautiful town because of the beauty of her daylily garden. Margie's Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home. Rev. Craig Werling will officiate, and Margie's burial will be next to her husband, Willie, in the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27th also at Mundwiler Funeral Home. A time of fellowship will be held at the Milbank Visitor's Center following the interment. Casket bearers will be: Aaron Tvedt, Paul Giessinger, Remon Jackson, Kevin Gribble, Ron VanHoorn, and Dylan Durick.
