It was always a special time to meet together at Ed & Elsie's house for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Mark looked forward to these times and marveled as Lucia and the Barber girls kept things upbeat and enjoyable. Mark often had chats with Dick about his work of building homes. Much was said over the years about times at Camp Bethel, picnics and swimming there, and just spending time together. I am grateful for the ways Mark and Lucia invited us to their home, included Thom and Elissa, and encouraged friendships and activities with their kids. It was fun to listen in on conversations Mark had with the children. He asked good questions. His quick whit and humor often moved us to laughter; to not take life too seriously, and to watch out for each. My deepest sympathies to family and friends as we remember Mark and share our thoughts.

When I was about 12 or 13, 50 odd years ago, I was helping Mark change the rear gears in his '63 Chevy on Easter Sunday, as you will. Mark wracked his knuckles pretty good and went to distract his mother while I "borrowed" the turkey baster from her kitchen to top off the oil in the differential. I imagine that did not go over very well. We will all miss Mark, he was a very special person.
