Mark Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 2, 2022.
Rev. Dr. Mark H. Miller, age 69, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2022, in Orlando, FL, after battling pulmonary fibrosis.

Mark was born in Detroit, MI and later moved to Bloomington, MN. He attended Central College in Pella, IA, where he met his wife, Sue Carpenter. He later attended the University of Dubuque for his Master of Divinity and earned a Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. Before retiring to Davenport, FL, Mark served for 40 years as a Presbyterian pastor in Sioux City, IA; East Moline, IL; La Vista, NE; and Hutchinson, KS.

Mark loved serving people and created many ministries at the churches he served. Even in retirement, he was actively involved at Community Presbyterian Church; was a Disney World season passholder, enjoying trips with his grandkids; and enjoyed reading in his lanai, biking around his neighborhood on a recumbent trike, and building Lego sets.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Desi Jimenez of Coral Gables, FL; son and daughter-in-law Brian and Joey Miller of Papillion, NE; five grandchildren, Noah and Eden Jimenez, Elle, Davis, and Clark Miller; brother and sister-in-law Alan and Mary Miller of Holland, MI; brother-in-law Mark Carpenter of Urbandale, IA; 1 nephew and 4 nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Sue Carpenter.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 4th at 2 pm at Community Presbyterian Church, 511 Celebration Ave., Celebration, FL 34747, with a graveside service to be held at a later date at Cedar Dale Cemetery, Papillion, NE.

Mark officiated our wedding in 1987 and discovered funds that had been donated for a handbell choir at the church. We bought the bells and the bell choir started in the fall of 1984 still has 1 of the original ringer plus me as the original director. Thank you to Mark for starting that that project at First Presbyterian, East Moline.

Mark officiated our wedding in 1991 and I babysat their kids when they were little. Mark (and Sue) will be remembered fondly. Thinking of Jennifer and Brian today.

I was a classmate of Mark and Sue at Central College and lived next door to Mark our senior year. He was a true gentleman and lived his faith every day. His suffering is over and has gone home to join Sue. My heart is heavy with sadness

I enjoyed watching Mark beam when he was watching his children perform at the band exhibitions. He was at every event and supportive. What touches my heart is seeing his son and daughter grow up to be hard working and amazing parents. His legacy lives on through them. He will be missed here, but Sue was joyful when she saw him in heaven.

I completely loved working with Pastor Mark in the Reno County VOAD. We certainly missed him when he moved from Hutchinson; but we loved that he wanted to spend more time with his family in FL. He will forever be remembered by us all for his devotion to the Lord and putting Feet to his Faith by serving others. We will see you again one day my friend!

Thank you, Mark, for being there on the worst night of my life. I would not be here if you had not been there.
