Mark Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 3, 2022.
Mark Kevin Murphy, 73, passed away September 20th, 2022. He was born August 18th, 1949 in Brookfield, WI to Chris and Ann Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Katie. He is survived by his brothers Christopher (Denise), Terry, and Michael (Sharon) and his children Kimberly (Asa Hardman), Scott, and Kevin (Heather). Loving Grandpa of Ziggy, Rex, Benjamin and James.

He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he was on the football team. He graduated with honors from Control Data Institute. Married to Susan (Hoylman) for 16 years, his children were raised in IL but enjoyed traveling the world. He worked at Ace Iron Works, United Commercial Workers Intl. Union, MacNeal Hospital and United Airlines until retirement.

He loved reading, watching movies, skiing, golfing, biking, football, and visited every baseball park in the U.S. He spent time driving a cab in Chicago, had a canny sense of direction and could navigate a foreign city like a local. He sought adventure and once hitchhiked to Alaska spending a voluntary night in jail to save on lodging, then selling his coin collection to get back home. He was great with kids, in part because he saw himself as one. He was a strict Dad, an indulgent Grandpa, a fun uncle, but a mediocre housekeeper. He excelled at math, especially when calculating odds, card-counting or figuring a bargain. He was handy, incredibly easy to talk to, and people enjoyed being around him. His sense of humor was absolutely unmatched.

Please, come share stories and celebrate his life with his family and friends:
