Mark Shupe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 27, 2013.
Mark A. Shupe, 58, of Hornick, Iowa, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, after a short, but brave, battle with leukemia. Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Mark was born September 8, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, the eighth child of eleven born to Ray and Irma (Glover) Shupe. Mark grew up in the rural Hornick area and began "learning the trade" at an early age, helping his Dad with his electrical business. He was united in marriage to his wife, Linda Friedrichs, on November 25, 1979. From this union, three children were born: Wyatt, Weston, and Whitney. Mark enjoyed horse training, horse shows, and team roping with his children. He met many new friends through saddle clubs, in the roping arena, and through five years of High School Rodeo and serving on the Moville High School Rodeo Committee. He looked back at these days as some of the best times spent with family and friends. Mark was a Master Electrician, Master Plumber, and Master HVAC technician. He was a member of the dying breed of "Jack of all trades" when it came to a service man. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Linda Shupe of Hornick, IA; three children, Wyatt (Sharon) Shupe of Beaufort, SC, Weston (Amber) Shupe of Cherokee, IA, and Whitney (and special friend Roger Swanson) of Graettinger, IA. He had one grandchild, Palyn Joanna Shupe, of Beaufort, SC, who brought so much special joy into his life. Unfortunately, their time together ended far too soon; five brothers, David, Mike, Douglas, John, and Jeff; and three sisters, Jean, Sharon, and Marcia. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray; his mother, Irma; his brother, Dennis; and his sister, Rosetta.
