MARK ZIEG Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 8 to Nov. 9, 2022.
ZIEG, Mark W. On November 5, Mark William Zieg of Winchester, MA, passed away with his loved ones at his side. Mark was born in Lincoln, NE, in 1966, son of Saundra Carter Zieg and the late William Murray Zieg. A doting son, father, brother, and partner, Mark will be remembered as creative, athletic, and determined: a true individualist. Growing up in Nebraska, it was clear Mark would become a man of many talents. He attended the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Colorado to study violin and taught himself piano and ukulele, he earned an IB in German from the United World College in Las Vegas, New Mexico, and he graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a double major in German and Chemistry. His proudest educational achievement was his MBA from the University of Chicago, where he often piloted his Cessna 172 to Meigs Field in Chicago's downtown. Mark shared his adventurous spirit with his family, who joined him on his travels across Europe, the Caribbean, and the U.S. to go hiking, camping, sailing, and surfing. Most weekends, Mark's favorite escape was to Flat Rocks in Gloucester, always with his dogs, Sadie and Lola, by his side. Mark leaves his two children, Joseph Flaherty Zieg of Cambridge and Emily Flaherty Zieg of Allston; and his partner, Andréa Lohmann de Araujo; and her son, Lucas, all of whom cared for him throughout the years of his illness. In addition to his mother, Mark is survived by his brother, Dr. David Carter Zieg and his wife, Angie of Lincoln, NE; and their children; his brother, Dr. Paul Murray Zieg and his wife, Julie of Evansville, IN, and their children, as well as his "Texas Cousins" and all the friends he made throughout his travels. He will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lincoln Youth Symphony Foundation.

Mark-
I know a lot of time has passed and i should´ve said something sooner. I know you´re busy in heaven but when you have a chance to read this, I just want you to know during the short time we spent together you made a major impact on my life. I will never forget our phone call shortly before your passing. Thank you

Good memories of Mark in Nebraska. Fun times at "the farm" on Normal. The "honor system" vegetable stand. Trying to learn how to be a farmer. The Peter Riegert party. Bonfires. Indiana the dog and Mario the cat.
