Curtis, Marlene 6/29/1941 - 1/11/2020 Ravenna, Michigan Marlene Grace Curtis aged 78 of Ravenna died Saturday morning, January 11, 2020 at the home of her daughter Melissa in Grant. Marlene was born on June 29, 1941 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Harley and Geraldine (Fisk) Hinkley, and graduated from Ravenna High School with the class of 1959. On June 4, 1960 she married Ray Curtis in Ravenna and they celebrated 37 years together before Ray preceded her in death in 1997. Marlene later returned to college earning her Bachelor's Degree from Calvin College. Marlene and Ray operated Curtis Upholstry at their home in Ravenna Township while also maintaining their dairy and goat farm. Marlene was very active in her community volunteering with the Girl Scouts, 4-H, FFA, the Astronomy Club, and the Theatre and Drama Club for Ravenna Schools. Marlene rarely missed an opportunity to support local kids and was a fixture at just about every Ravenna Bulldog activity. Marlene also served on the township Board of Review for many years and was an active member of the Sherman Moore American Legion Post 297 Auxiliary in Ravenna. She will be greatly missed by her children Tony Curtis of Albuquerque, NM, Anita (Heath) Curtis-MacDonald of Ravenna, and Melissa (Jake) Dilts of Grant; her grandchildren Audrey Tipper, Jeremy Dilts, Teresa Tensen, Steve Dilts, and Anne Woods; her great-grandchildren Blake and Lily Dilts, Linnea Tipper, Matthew and Tucker Dilts; and her brother Melvin Hinkley of New Port Richey, FL, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many great friends. A Gathering to Celebrate Marlene's life will take place on Sunday, January 19 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Sherman Moore American Legion Post 297 in Ravenna. Those who wish to remember Marlene with a memorial donation are asked to consider donating to any of the organizations listed above which benefit kids. Marlene was a great listener with a good sense of humor. I don't remember ever seeing her without a smile on her face. She was a wonderful neighbor and was such an asset to the community. She will be missed by all who knew her. The family will be kept in our thoughts and prayers.
