We had the pleasure of skiing with Marty on our trips from the UK to Big Sky. He was a kind and gracious gentleman. Sad to hear of his passing. God bless, RIP

RIP Marty

Jason Martel

July 2, 2024

Marty was instrumental in helping me hire John LaFontaine to coach the Bozeman ICEDOGS in the early 2000´s. He placed a call to Red Berenson the then head coach of the Michigan Wolverines from the conference room of the old Valley Ice Garden and asked the receptionist at the athletic department to tell him "Blackie" called. Within minutes his call was returned and Red told him about a young coach up at Lake Superior State that might be a good fit for our program. The rest is history. John was the first person I informed today of Marty´s passing. He replied back "he was an amazing man". He was a true friend of our hockey program and indeed an amazing man. The entire Martel family will be forever grateful for his friendship and support
