Marty Posey Obituary

Mr. Marty Posey, 76, of Cherokee, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at his home.

He was a member of Cherokee Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a member of the Gideons and a Korean War veteran.

He retired from Reynolds Metals Co. as a machinist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lou Edna Posey; sister, Gertrude Posey Berryman; and brothers, Willie and Jack Posey.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary Posey; and his adopted granddaughter, Nichole Byrd; "Nichole, you have given me a million dollars worth of pleasure;" two children, Anthony Posey and Susan Hamm; three stepsons, Matt and wife, Suzanne Byrd, Mark Byrd and Michael Byrd; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Camilla Posey Willett and husband, Charles, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Mable Posey Killen, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, from 6-9 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. The funeral service will be Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Chuck Lansdell and Bruce Palmer officiating.

Pallbearers will be J.C. Hovater, Howard Keeton, Jerry Gentry, Harold Faulks, Dudley Kilpatrick and Don Gross.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alacare Hospice or Cherokee Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

The family expresses a special "thank you" to Dr. Ronald McCoy and his staff and Alacare Hospice.

Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee, is directing.
