Mary Ashbury Obituary
Peacefully at Princess Gardens, Peterborough, on Oct 27th, 2017 in her 97th year, after a brief illness. Beloved wife of the late Ivan Herbert Ashbury. Loving mother of Edwin (Ted) Ashbury (wife, Janet) and Mary Patricia (Trish) Ashbury. Dear grandmother of Andrew, Alison, and Jennifer (Neal Bhan). Mary was a talented artist who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at the cottage on Kahshe Lake in Muskoka. A brief memorial service will be held at Princess Gardens Chapel, 100 Charlotte St., Peterborough on Thursday, Nov 30th at 2:00 pm. Parking in the municipal parking lot of the Peterborough Square Mall adjacent to Princess Gardens. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the caregivers and staff at Princess Gardens who treated Mary with such kindness and compassion. Arrangements entrusted to COMSTOCK-KAYE LIFE CELEBRATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. I had the privilege of cutting the Ashbury's lawn for many years on Maple Crescent. More importantly I had the privilege of befriending both Mary and Ivan. Of the more than 500 people I've worked for over the years, there isn't anybody I hold in higher regard than this fine couple. So full of wisdom, wit and kindness. I especially remember a road trip the 3 of us embarked on to Barrie to pick up a piece of family furniture. Packed into a pick-up truck for 5 hours gets a lot talked over! They once told me I was fortunate because all my work (farming and landscaping) allowed me to walk all day on natural ground, they reminded me that people in big cities might go weeks on end never seeing anything but cement and pavement. It was a unique perspective that I've never forgotten. Rest in peace Mrs. Ashbury, you'll be missed.
