McHENRY - Mary A. Baird, 87, of McHenry and formerly of Harvard, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at home.

She was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Harvard, to Richard and Elizabeth Hutchinson.

She and her husband, Don, operated Baird's Café in Harvard from the late 1950s until 1974. She then did the catering and banquets for Plum Tree Golf Course in Harvard and was the head cook at Washington School in Harvard for many years. She was well-known for her pies, muffins and sweet rolls and enjoyed watching her grandchildren's activities.

Survivors include her two children, Craig (Debbie) Baird of Prescott, Ariz., and Jean (Roy) Barnes of McHenry; her daughter-in-law, Esther Baird of El Paso, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Bobby, DeeDee, Sissy, Andrew, Eamon, Dillon and Jenny.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Howard "Spike" O'Malley; her second husband, Donald Baird; a son, Dick; three brothers, Everett, Lyle and Bill; and three sisters, Martha Gay, Margaret Wagner and Ethel Hutchinson.

The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Shaun Erno, chaplain from Monarch Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Harvard.
