Sister Mary Assumpta Mazza, PBVM, of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, entered into rest on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Mount St. Joseph, New Windsor. She was 95.

Daughter of the late Nunzio and Guiseppina Russo Mazza, she was born on June 25, 1913 in New York City.

She entered religious life on February 2, 1937 at Mount St. Joseph in New Windsor, made her First Vows on August 15, 1939 and Final Vows on August 15, 1942.

She received her BA in History from Manhattan College in 1945, Masters Degree in History in 1948 and Doctorate in 1957 from St. John's University.

Sister's ministry as a teacher began at Mount St. Joseph Academy from 1939-1942, then on to St. Michael's High School, Manhattan from 1942-1960, Manhattan College from 1948-1952, St. John's High School, Goshen from 1960-1963, Mount St. Mary College, Newburgh from 1960-1983, Seton Junior College from 1983-1988 and St. Michael High School, Manhattan from 1988-2002 as an advisor. She was also dean of Presentation Junior College from 1964-1967.

She is survived by her nephews, Frank and Edward Judice and grand-nephew, Albert Mazza, Jr.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, August 24 at Mount St. Joseph, New Windsor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 25 at Mount St. Joseph Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sisters of the Presentation, Building Fund, 880 Jackson Ave., New Windsor, NY 12553.
