Mary Ficarra Scheppegrell

On January 21, 2019, Mary Ficarra Scheppegrell peacefully went to be with the Lord reuniting in heaven with her beloved husband, Louis Edward Scheppegrell. Mary was born and raised in New Orleans where she graduated from St. Mary's Dominican High School. Mary and Louis first met on a blind date and afterwards became inseparable. Later, Mary worked as an accountant for McDonald Sales and Oreck Corporation for over 40 years. Mary had a gift towards hospitality and loved sharing her home entertaining her family, relatives, and friends. Those who came were welcomed to stay and eat at her home while Mary would prepare food day and night. Throughout the years, her home for many was the place to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mary leaves us to join her dear parents, Sam Ficarra and Marie Effie LeBlanc, and beloved brother Salvador Ficarra. Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life for 63 years, Louis Edward Scheppegrell. She is survived by her four children, Sandra Cavallino Johnson and husband David, Rickie Scheppegrell and wife Yvette, Ronnie Scheppegrell, and Louis Scheppegrell II, along with seven grandchildren, Louis Scheppegrell III, Mary Francis Cavallino Frick and husband Greg, Chris Scheppegrell, Ashley Cavallino Somers and husband Rob, Lauren Cavallino Fiorenza and husband Brad, Natalie Scheppegrell Johnson and husband Daniel, and Keith Hudson, and six great-grandchildren, Dominick Johnson, Bennett Frick, Kristin Somers, Donovan Johnson, Miles Frick and Ryan Somers. Mary was like a mother to many of her nephews and nieces, known also as "Nanny" to Ricky Roy Ficarra, Anthony Ficarra and wife Mercedes, Angela Ficarra Ponivas and husband Scott, and Samuel Ficarra. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Mary's life at Celebration Church, Kenner Campus, 3550 Williams Blvd, Kenner LA, on February 1, 2019, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mary to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org, 800-805-5856).
