Dear Cliff, Elizabeth and Morgan,
I am so sorry to know of the loss of your dear Mother, Mary. I did not know that she was ill. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know how very important all of you were to her, especially Morgan. If you are ever in Houston, please let me know, I would love to see you. It was my good fortune and true joy to report directly to Mary Spangler at Los Angeles City College when she was the college President and I was the Director of Staff and Organizational Development. Then and now I have been in awe of Mary as a visionary leader, indebted to her as a committed mentor, and privileged to call her my friend.
Mary's focus, dedication, and commitment to continuously working at the highest level of excellence as a community college educator has been an inspiration for me and countless others. Mary brought grace, beauty, and a joie de vivre to all of her endeavors.
My condolences are extended to Mary's family, friends, and colleagues. I join you in deeply missing a "woman of heart" who will live on in our hearts and lives.

Dr. Mary Spangler was a great leader. Her immeasurable love for Los Angeles City College (LACC) was inspirational and it led students at the campus to achieve their dreams and to succeed. I was very blessed for having her as my superior for six and a half years. Dr. Spangler, you were my hero. You will always be in my heart and prayers. Please take with you my love and respect. May you rest in peace.

I am so saddened to hear of Mary's passing. Starting as my client in 2001, we quickly became friends. She was an amazing educator and businesswoman with a formidable presence and a sunny smile. More than anything, Mary was fun! I miss her so much and send my prayers to her family.
