Matthew R. husband of the late Rebecca Matern (nee Vires) beloved father of Alex Matern, loving son of Elizabeth (Anthony Russo) Matern and Walter E. (Ginny) Matern, devoted brother of Amanda, Barron, and David Matern, & Thomas and James Trauger, dear grandson of Carey Ann Burton, also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mar. 8, 2012. Age 36 years. Residence Mt. Washington. Visitation at T P WHITE & SONS Funeral Home 2050 Beechmont Ave. Mt. Washington on Wed. Mar. 14, from 5-8 PM. Service Private.

Matt, Amanda, Barron & David...beloved summer cohorts at Clifton Meadows :) I don't think we realized at the time what a truly magical childhood we were being treated to. Matt and I were members of a little crew of Clifton kids who spent summers at Clifton Meadows. I even got to see him in the winters because of Y swimming growing up. As a small child, I knew he was hilarious, up for anything, and always with a smile on his face. As an older child, I remember realizing that he was still always up for anything, but also brilliant, as sweet as can be, and full of a generous heart. Matt was a truly special soul. I am sorry I missed my chances to see him in recent years. My thoughts go out to your whole family Liz, Walter, Amanda, Barron, David, et. al.
