Matthew Murdock

Matthew Murdock, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in Palm Harbor, Florida. He was born on September 10, 1942, in Joplin, Missouri, to Ruth and Matthew Murdock.

Matthew's life was marked by a deep commitment to family and an enduring passion for learning. He took immense pride in all his children being bilingual, a reflection of his love for language and education. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, he often found amusement when people asked if he was familiar with the Daredevil Marvel Comics series. Matthew also had a profound appreciation for history and politics, relishing thoughtful discussions on these topics. His kindness, dependability, and respectful nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

From his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, Omayra: "I met this Peace Corps volunteer in Panama, in less than two years, we were married and began our life together. Our life with our four kids was very exciting, with "the oldest computer programmer in the market" (as he liked to call himself) taking us to places like Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico Telephone Company), Chicago (Intel), Stamford, CT (Electrolux), Hartford, CT (United Technologies), before finally settling in Tampa (CapGemini, Tampa Paradyne, Time Customer Service). My bilingual husband truly understood the true meaning of marriage. His life taught me unconditional love and his death taught me kindness. Great ride, my dear cowboy."

He is survived by his wife, Omayra Murdock; their children, Ruth Murdock, Paul Murdock, Claudia Dyer-Murdock (Bryan Dyer), and Daniel Murdock (Ingrid Murdock); and his siblings, Lawrence Murdock, William Murdock, Anne Elwood, Patricia LaFortune, Mary McSwain, and Elizabeth LaFortune. Matthew was a devoted "Lelo" to 11 grandchildren: Ian Murdock, Alexandra Lindholm, Lissandra Dyer, Bianca Merchant, Madison Ramberac, March Murdock, Lane Murdock, Christian Murdock, Kellen Murdock, Sebastian Murdock, and Oliver Murdock.

Matthew's legacy of kindness and intellectual curiosity will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those whose lives he touched. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
