Matthew Poppens Obituary
Matthew was born on August 24, 1990 to Dudley and Crystal Poppens in Park Ridge, Illinois. Matthew grew up as an avid sports lover, spending much of his childhood playing football and soccer. Matthew graduated from St. Charles East High School in 2008. Matthew attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he fell in love with the people, culture and the mountains. Matthew eventually relocated to beautiful Longmont, Colorado, where he resided for over a decade. He lived his life as a loyal Chicago sports fan and lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed annual family vacations to the beach, his family at the World Famous Dark Horse in Boulder, and his beloved dog, Stan.
Matthew is survived by his father Dudley Poppens (Gretchen Murphy) (Bluffton, SC), mother Crystal Poppens (Marty Booge) (Cape Coral, FL), sister Chelsea Poppens (Jason Weiner) (Oswego, IL), sister Margaret Templeton (Chicago, IL), sister Elizabeth Poppens (Charleston, SC), brother Mitchell Booge (Cape Coral, FL) brother Jack Poppens (Bluffton, SC), niece and nephew Adalyn and Nathan Weiner (Oswego, IL) and so many, many friends.
The private celebration of Matthew's life will be on Thursday, May 16 in Boulder, CO. Donations in Matthew's memory may be made to the Emergency Family Assistance Association (efaa.org) and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (afsp.org).
