Matthew V. Tirrell, Jr., 80, formerly of Phillipsburg, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, in Washington Township. Born: September 15, 1923 in Milford, a son of the late Matthew V. Tirrell, Sr., and the late Ruth Marnell. Personal: He was employed by the State of Wisconsin as an engineer. Previous to that he worked for JCP & L, and the former Tirrell Textile Co., which was in Phillipsburg. He served with the Navy in World War II as a Lt. Junior Grade. He was a 1944 graduate of Lafayette College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League. Survivors: three children, Matthew V. III, of Santa Barbara, Calif., David A. of Pasadena, Calif., and Mary Ensslin of Pen Argyl. A brother, Charles D. of Houston; and five grandchildren. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Finegan Funeral Home, 2nd Avenue and Warren Street, Alpha, and 11 a.m. in the St. Edwards Catholic Church in Milford. Call 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Ss. Philip and James Cemetery in Greenwich Township. Memorials: Donations may be made to the Fund to Benefit Children and Youth, Inc., 903 Elm Street, Allentown, PA 18109.
