Maxey Jennings Harrell, Jr. passed away at his ranch in Exeter on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the age of 83.

Max was born to Maxey Jennings Harrell, Sr. and Clara Copeland Harrell on July 21 1933 at the old Visalia Hospital.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Joyce Dunn; two daughters, Kirsten Gibe and Lissa Walker; two granddaughters, Amy Gibe and Sarah Franklin; two grandsons, Hudson Walker and Gage Walker; one great-grandson, Caiden Harrell; sister, Clarice Ansell of Folsom, CA; and brother, Don Harrell of Visalia. Max is preceded in death by his former wife, Joan Miekle and grandson, Jared Gibe.

Max lived most of his life in Visalia and later in Exeter. One exception was his service in the Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. As a very young man he worked at the city farm alongside his brother Don. Their father was the city farm manager. After graduating from Mt. Whitney High School (the new high school) in 1952 he worked for the city schools for a while.

Max belonged to Visalia Vapor Trailers Car Club for many years and loved old cars. He had a 1940 Ford Street Rod. For many years he was in partnership with Bill Koontz as K & H Masonary. In the 80's Max worked for Hein Ranch until his dream came true in 1990, when he got his own ranch.

During his life time he always had a Border Collie with him. One of his favorite pastimes was training and playing with them. They made him happy…..

Max also enjoyed watching boxing on TV, gardening, building things and, in his younger years, camping trips to the mountains.

Max's wishes were when he died, there would be no funeral services.
